Tom & JerryNewest Review: ... two of the things we least want to influence young children with? I did a bit of internet research for this review, and two things jumped out. The first was how the intro stills show Tom and Jerry smiling at each other, and the second was the way no-one really knows why Tom was chasing Jerry; he never ate him, so what was it all about? These two points could be criticised for confusing kids, who on the one hand see a friendly couple, but then just see mindless violence for no reason. In a world where computer games are often banned for extreme violence, and teen murderers cite music as their influence, I wonder if anyone has ever killed a... more |

WHAT IS IT ABOUT: This short animation from the 40s and 50s centers on Tom the cat's attempts to catch Jerry the mouse. The cartoon focuses on Tom's plots and Jerry's intelligent evasion of escape. WAS IT ANY GOOD: On the one hand, this is an undoubted classic that we all loved as kids, and that's that. However, with the gift of hindsight, I can't help but wonder what the hell this show was made for. Now, it's a bit serious to say, but this program does nothing but promote violence and enmity, which surely are two of the things we least want to influence young children with? I did a bit of internet research for this review, and two ... Read the complete review

The slapstick comedy factor and the seemingly indestructible nature of the characters is perhaps what makes the cartoon Tom & Jerry one of the most famous and popular cartoons ever made. I loved it as a kid, my son loves watching it now, and I am sure generations to come will enjoy it just as much. The show has a rather basic premise, which is perhaps one of hte keys to its success - that of a cat chasing a mouse. Most of us will have seen one animal hunt another in the inevitable food chain, and one of the most common for us is the cat and mouse scenario, with mice being part of the so-called staple diet of cats - they are natural ... When I think back to when I was in single figure digits (that makes it sound like I'm 70 doesn't it!) but back in the 90's us kids used to love cartoons, as most parents will more than likely remember. However, when I think to those that will stand the test of time, two really stand out to me: the several mishaps of looney tunes characters, as well as the loveable cat and mouse pair of tom and jerry. ~~ What was it all about ~~ Back to the good old 90's where health and safety chiefs weren't pulling everything slightly violent of kids channels, there was a duo called Tom and Jerry. Tom was an angry grey cat, who you somehow always had to ... Read the complete review

Is it an existential analysis of the malaise facing modern day America? Is it a sharp satire on the racial chasm between the various immigrant groups who have settled in the Promised Land? Or even a debunking of the shorthand and myths developed in the days of silent comedy? GET OUTTA HERE…. Tom and Jerry is simply dead funny, slapstick comedy of the very highest level which gives us all big laffs even today. The Tom and Jerry cartoon series has been a staple of children’s television entertainment for more than 50 years and shows absolutely no likelihood of becoming any less popular in this sparkling new Millennium than it has ... This is a classic cartoon, and it’s so simple and so entraining for kids to watch. All I have to do is shout ‘Tom and Jerry’ is on and my daughter runs so fast to watch it. It’s such a simple cartoon, Tom the cat chases little Jerry around to eat him, but of course never does. Tom bangs pans, squashes him and still nothing happens, and then Jerry might cut off Tom’s tale and still nothing happens. My daughter has got to the stage where she asks questions like, ‘mummy why?’ So after watching ‘Tom and Jerry’ she asked ‘Mummy or they not going to take Tom to hospital’ in that ...
