Advantages: Very entertaining

Top Gear is a motoring programme but is a lot more than that. Running for 21 years it is also an entertainment programme, friends of mine who don't even drive watch it for the entertainment value.

The presenters are Jeremy Clarkson-smug,infuriating but very funny, Richard Hammond (aka The hamster) -vertically challenged, eye candy for some ,much amusement is had at the expense of his height, and whether he has whitened his teeth. Had a well publicised crash while filming this programme but thankfully survived. The final presenter is James May, the intellectual one, has hair like a spaniel and no sense of direction.

The other important member of the crew is the mystery man known as The Stig. Dressed in a white racing suit with matching crash helmet, he is respeonsible for testing the cars on the programme by seeing how fast he can drive them round the track. Plenty of rumours circulate as to who he actually is. You can buy t-shirts that state- I am the stig!

The programme schedule normally consists of the guys reviewing a few cars, normally very expensive sports cars, an argument will ensue as to which is the best which can either be solved by the Stig taking each car round the track to see which is fastest or by the presenters taking part in a challenge. Previous challenges have involved racing to get to a destination by car,train and bus, driving through the sahara desert and crossing the Channel in a car thats been converted to a boat. Normally these challenges are very amusing and are usually my favourite part of the show.

Another popular feature is the 'Star in a reasonably priced car' Every week a celebrity is given some training by the Stig and then take a normal everyday car around the track. Times are then put on a big score board,it's fascinating how much they all want to be the fastest as though it's the most important thing in the world ever! Among the top on the leaderboard so far have been Jodie Kidd, JK from Jamiroquai and Dame Ellen Mcarthur. Last are Richard Whitely and Terry Wogan, Jonathan Ross didn't do too well either as he got lost!

Too sum up-this is not the programme for you if you actually want to learn anything about everyday 'normal' priced cars. If you want an entertaining hour of men behaving stupidly with fast expensive sports cars (oh and blowing up a caravan in new and interesting ways) then this is the programme for you!
