It's really an entertainment programme, but a very good one (Top Gear)

Okay, let's be honest, Top Gear isn't really a car programme anymore. It just uses cars as way of making an entertainment or comedy programme, which it does extremely successfully. Sure, it's great to see the lovely, fast, beautiful machines, but it's the banter between the presentation team, the quips and one liners that make the programme so entertaining to watch. Clearly, much of the material is planned to the minute detail, especially in the 'races' where cars take on other forms of transport - in order to get the most entertaining outcome, which is fair enough, because it works so well. The other thing I really enjoy about Top Gear is the massively high production values. It is evidently produced meticulously - camera shots are inventive, making fantastic use of light. The soundtracks are also excellent - with many pieces taken from the Extreme Music range, which is really good. I'm happy enough to watch it just to see how beautifully it's produced, let alone for the entertainment and comedy value!

Summary: One of my favourite television programmes - high production and entertainment values.
