Advantages: very funny
Disadvantages: none
Total wipeout hosted by Richard Hammond has to be one of the stupidest and at the same time funniest things to hit our TV screens. Filmed in Argentina total wipeout is a mix between Its a Knockout and Takeshi's castle and is an obstacle course with lots of water and mud.
Each episode has 4 rounds, the first has 20 contestants, and is called the qualifier. It consists of a course with many obstacles, theres one where you have to get past a wall that has boxing gloves shooting out, and onother is the big balls, four large red balls that you have to bounce across, nearly everyone fails this and ends up in the water below, the qualifier is then ended with a rope swing to the end. The top 12 finishing times go on to the next round, the Sweeper.
The sweeper consists of the twelve remaining contestants standing on very high podiums over a big pool of water, they are in a circle with a large spinning foam arm that they have to jump over and land back onto there podium, every rotation the arm gets faster and higher and it continues till only one player remains, the first 6 to fall are eliminated and the last 6 to fall go through to the next round, Dizzy dummies.
Dizzy dummies is a set of 3 rounds, the winner of each round goes through to the final. All 6 contestants that are left get placed on a large spinning machine and get spun until they are dizzy, they then have to make there way across a small obstacle without falling in the water. The first across to the other side is the winner and then this is repeated 2 more times till there are 3 finalists to face the Wipeout zone.
The wipeout zone is the final and each of the 3 contestants takes on the wipeout zone separately, This is the toughest of all the challenges and includes a climbing wall that is under a large cascade of water and a rolling slippery beam.
The show has an interviewer who talks to the contestants throughout in the form of Amanda Byram, I find her quite annoying and I as a fan of top gear and Richard Hammond I find when he is commentating in this he lacks his normal spark and he too can be quite annoying.
It is certainly not a show to be taken seriously but it's a laugh a minute. Good clean fun all the family can enjoy. Brilliant.
Summary: Great fun
