Advantages: Funny and entertaining

Disadvantages: Can get quite repetitive

Total Wipeout is a highly entertaining programme the first few times you watch it, unfortunately after that it all becomes very similar and repetitive and once youve seen a fair few people fall off the assault course it becomes less and less funny.

The game starts with a large number of contestants trying to complete the total wipeout obstacle course which features a large slide, a boxing wall which knocks many a contestant into a large pile of mud, large red balls which the contestants are supposed to jump across (but rarely do) and then a rope swing or something similar at the end as this sometimes changes. The 12 contestants who complete the course in the fastest time then go through to the next round called 'The Sweeper'.

The Sweeper actually looks quite scary as well as looking very painful when it wipes contestants feet from underneath them. The twelve contestants are placed on individual podiums and then a large sweeping pole works round the podium circle and the contestants are required to jump over the pole whilst then landing back on the podium. Should they miss or be hit then they get plunged into a pool of water underneath. This sweeping pole gets both higher and faster as time goes on and the last six contestants standing go through to the next round 'Dizzy Dummies'.

Dizzy Dummies is a short obstacle course, however prior to attempting this course the contestants are strapped into a contraption which spins them round and round and round at super fast speeds so they then have to attempt this short course whilst being extremely dizzy. The first three to complete this then get through to the final 'The Wipeout Zone'.

The wipeout zone is the final part of the course. It looks quite difficult and very tiring and is made even more difficult by having pouring water over you whilst trying to do the monkey bars and having to jump across trampolines which are so small that there is no extra room for manouevere. Whilst looking difficult it does also look quite fun and I wouldn't mind giving it a go myself. The person who completes this part in the fastest time is the overall winner and they bag themselves a nice prize of £10000.

The show itself is filmed in Brazil and has a presenter called Amanda who talks to the contestants both before and after they compete on the course. In addition Richard Hammond both presents and provides quirky comments during the course from a studio in the UK.

Overall this is an entertaining show however the obstacle course is pretty much the same week after week. Sometimes they change a couple of things like the end of the qualifying course or making the contestants jump in sacks on the sweeper, but sadly it still remains very samey. I do still watch it though occasionally but would like to maybe see a different course or different elements in future series.

Summary: Fun saturday night television
