Advantages: Entertaining, Funny, Messy, Richard Hammond's Commentating
Disadvantages: Repetitive
Total Wipeout is a game show on every Saturday night on BBC one. It contains commentating by Richard Hammond as he is the host of the show. Initially, there are 20 contestants who you are introduced to. It's rather like Takeshi's Castle (the Japanese game show), but in my opinion it's a bit better. The 20 contestants are narrowed down to just a few who try their wits at the final to win the £10,000 cash prize.
First up is an assault course where the contestants slide down and then run across big blocks over water as well as a slippery narrow pipe. They must also go along a boxing wall, where boxing gloves come out and hit the contender off into the mud. They must then try and take on these huge balloon shaped things to bounce down each one. However, contestants barely make it to the second, never mind the third or forth. The contestants then swim to the finish line. Each contestant has their time recorded and the top 12 go through.
The next round is a game of 'Sweeper' where the contestants stand on high boards and a sweeping machine with rubber coating comes round to try and knock them off. The speed and height at which the Sweeper moves increases over time. 6 Qualify by being the last 6 standing from this round.
The third round is one of two games. My favourite is the Dizzy Dummies one where the contestants are all spun around before having to make it across an assault course, and if they fall off into the water, they must swim back and try again. The first three to the end go through to the final.
The final is a huge assault course with some challenging parts such as climbing up a slope with heavy barrels rolling down and jumping between pillars with bouncy boards. Their times are recorded and the quickest one wins the cup and the £10,000 prize money. It's a really entertaining show and the commentating makes it more exciting. I'd recommend watching it on a Saturday night.
