Total Wipeout is on BBC as a regular programme, they also have specials like the winter wipeout and the winners show. They start with about 8-10 contestants and gradually eliminate them by putting them through a series of challenges over water. The scheduling of the programme changes a lot and is repeated late at night as I am currently watching at 10.45pm.
These challenges are either against the clock, or other contestants. The course is in a huge swimming pool in Argentina, and the obstacles are electronic spongy covered blocks that spin and shake. It tests strength, dizziness, balance, and then covers them in foam and slimy things.
The funniest part has to be the first eliminator which has the contestants come through one by one, the big bouncy red balls throw them around and they end up doing all sorts of back breaking somersaults.
This is very easy to watch tv with Richard Hammond commentating, and his glamorous assistant Amanda cheering them on. It really makes me laugh and although I dont watch it every time it is on, it is the sort of comedy gameshow that you can dip in and out of.
The winner gets £10000 which is probably what keeps people entering. Not just anyone can enter, each contestant has their own nickname and personality that comes across and adds to the comedy.
Summary: Good if you need cheering up
