Advantages: Great show, lots of different sketches, fairly simple format.
Disadvantages: None
Trigger Happy TV was an Absolutely Productions production which starred Dom Joly and ran on Channel 4 from 2000-2001. However, you can find repeats of this on miscellaneous digitals channels from time to time.
The show was a hidden camera comedy programme where cameraman Sam Cadman would follow Dom Joly around as he played pranks on members of the public and often embarrassed people or got them in to ridiculous situations.
One of the most commonly remembered sketches was Dom Joly pulling out a 4 foot long giant Nokia mobile phone which was ringing and then he'd scream HELLO down the phone usually making everyone around him cringe with embarrassment or just jump out of their skin.
There were quite a few different sketches on the show and these were generally filmed in Central London and the surrounding areas and because of the sheer amount of people who are usually around in Central London there was lots of fantastic reactions caught on camera. The sketches were very original and not something that I'd seen before on other hidden camera shows such as Beadles about.
If you can find some episodes on TV or perhaps buy or rent out a Trigger Happy TV DVD then I'm sure you'll find at least some of the sketches funny, particularly if you've never seen them before. Dom Joly did come up with some fantastic ideas and I can't imagine how I would have reacted had I been there when they were filming!
I have a fair few chuckles at this show even 8 or 9 years later and it's something that never gets old for me, providing it's not watched too regular.
I am rating this show 5/5 as I think it was pretty cutting edge for it's time, Dom was a fantastic star of the show and the cameraman was always on hand to catch the fantastic reactions of members of the public. I would definitely watch it again and would highly recommend it.
Summary: A fantastic hidden camera show starring Dom Joly.
