True Blood

Description: HBO / American Drama Series / Vampires in the small town of Luisiana

Newest Review: ... 'come out' following the introduction of Tru Blood which is a synthetic human blood so vampires no longer need to feed on humans. Of course not everyone is happy to have vampires in their midst and there are plenty of vampires who still like to feed on real human blood. The central character is Sookie Stackhouse, a local girl working in the bar (who happens to have mind-reading powers) and ... more

Premium Review True Blood - truly great (396 words)

I'd heard about this programme as it was shown on Satellite TV before making it to Terrestial. It is currently on Channel 4 on a Wednesday night at 10pm. So far I'm loving this show. There seems to be a real vampire trend at the moment with Being Human (which I also loved) and, of course, Twilight. However this is much, much, darker and much much more graphic than Twilight. The show is set in Bon Temps which is a small town in Louisiana - vampires have recently 'come out' following the introduction of Tru Blood which is a synthetic human blood so vampires no longer need to feed on humans. Of course not everyone is happy to ...  Read the complete review

True Blood, well as the title for a TV series it could mean many things but it relates to the new HBO series about vampires. Now, I'm a bit of a sucker (hah!) for vampires anyway so I gave this series a go based on the recommendations of a friend who has the same 'taste' (oh the vamp gags could go on in a similar vein for a while). I watched the first one after recording it to Sky+ but I was really disinterested, it seemed crass and ill prepared. Sookie, played by Anna Paquin, seemed just too plaintive and passive to be a character of any worth and her brother Jason, Ryan Kwanten, is a lewd womaniser who raised my disapproving eyebrows with ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review True Blood: Does what Twilight wouldn't dare! (390 words)

First, a bit of background... the wife and daughter had discovered Twilight, and preached to anyone who would listen how great it was. Being an open minded kinda guy I went on their recommendations and gave the series ago. They were good. A bit lacklustre in some cases. Like they had missed a trick. And god were they predictable. Anyway despite that, they whetted an appetite and interest for vampires. Enter True Blood, and this is what Twilight would never dare to do! From the first episode you learn very quickly, this is miles away from the teen-girl-target-marketed tales of Twilight. This is raunchy, violent, bloody, risqué vampire TV. And thank goodness! I ...  Read the complete review

True Blood is a programme that I'd seen advertised on TV but never really bothered watching, having felt that the screens were overloaded with vampire-related material. However, having been badgered by my sister to watch it as it was so good, I duly set it to record on Channel 4 and series linked it on my Sky+. Three days ago, I had about eight of the programmes queuing up to be watched on my Planner, so I thought I'd give it a go. Within the first episode, I was hooked and now I've watched all the episodes on my Planner and I'm impatiently waiting for next Wednesday when the next episode is on. It's fantastic! But now for the actual show. The first ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review True Blood: God Hates Fangs (797 words)

Vampires have long been equated with sex in our various mythologies regarding them, and yet the vampire shows on TV are usually aimed at tweens and teens and suitable for early evening viewing on TV. Now I love Buffy and Angel as much as much as the next Whedon geek but stuff like Twilight really bores me. True Blood is a real breath of fresh air when it comes to vampire TV. It follows the life of mind-reader Sookie Stackhouse, an ever so slightly prim Southern Belle who works as a waitress, as she is introduced to the murky world of vampirism by Bill, a bizarrely well mannered and well behaved vampire, who at some points looks more like a book salesman. At ...  Read the complete review
