Advantages: Good idea, sex scenes and nudity

Disadvantages: Very slow-paced, awful Southern accents

Being a big fan of Dexter, I was looking forward to True Blood as it had been advertised during Dexter for weeks. The first series is currently being shown on FX on Friday nights, and I think it's coming to Channel 4 in the autumn.

True Blood has a very interesting premise - vampires have been living in our society for centuries feeding on human blood. However, advances in technology have created a synthetic blood that vampires can live off. Now that vampires don't need to kill people, they are free to live and interact with humans. However, some humans don't take too kindly to them and there's rumblings of discontent between the humans and the vampires.

True Blood is set in a small town in Louisiana and focuses primarily on Sookie, a waitress who can hear people's thoughts. In the first episode, a vampire moves into town and Sookie slowly falls in love with him.

I'll be honest here and admit that I've given up on True Blood. I watched the first 4 episodes and found that although the idea was good, it was just too slow for me with not much at all happening in the actual episodes.

I did enjoy the rather constant sex scenes and nudity (who wouldn't?), but even that couldn't make up for the fact that not a lot seemed to actually happen. I can appreciate that it takes a while to get to know the characters, but I'd watched it for 4 hours and felt that the show was going nowhere. I've read that it's been critically acclaimed, but the slow pace and awful Southern accents mean that I'm not bothering with it any more.

Summary: Just not enough happening to keep my interest

We have just finished watching the second series and it was soooooooooooooooo bad even worse than the first. It was even slower and didn't go anywhere but somehow I kept being drawn back to it! Theres a day or two of my life that I'll never get back:(

I love this, it's got a real American Gothic feel to it and gets better as it goes on.
