Advantages: Good Plot. Interesting & deep characters. Continuing Story Arc
Disadvantages: Need to watch all the episodes. Could have a little more action.
I have been watching Trueblood on FX ever since it took over Dexter's slot on a Friday night. It is the TV adaptation of a group of novels about a character called Sookie Stackhouse in an alternate reality where Vampires have come out of the Coffin & revealed their existance.
The programme is set in the fictional Louisianna town of Bontemps. It tells the story of Sookie & her relationships with the people around her. In their world, Vampires have admitted to the world that they exist. They have been granted the same rights as Humans & are viewed legally as equals. However, some Humans view them with (understandable) fear. Early in the series, murders start to occur in the town. The only consistant factor being that the victims all had some association with a Vampire. This forms the main story arc.
This is a drama, not an action show. Do not expect a Buffy clone. Many episodes go by before you see a vampire killed. This is also a very adult show with explicit sexual content in almost every episode. This gives Sam in Sex & The City a real run for her money.
I enjoy the programme. I think it is one of the better dramas on television. Especially for men (not just because of the constant nudity). The characters are all very interesting & deep. The programme takes some nice twists along the series & the plot is good.
Downsides being that you really need to watch all the episodes. Miss a couple & you'll start to lose track quickly. Also as individual episodes go, sometimes not a lot can happen. The long term story arc is where the interest is.
In all a good programme. I think the plus points outweigh the bad. Lets hope that we get some of the further adventures of Sookie Stackhouse.
Summary: A good fantasy drama. Stirctly adults only
