Twin Peaks (1990)Newest Review: ... but thoroughly likeable Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan), as he investigates the murder of popular homecoming Queen Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). There are numerous suspects, and a dark, creepy air percolating around the town. As the series progresses, the truth slowly unfolds, with surreal elements such as creepy dreams with backwards-talking midgets and lounge piano music being thrown in for good measure. The show was a huge success at the time and the pilot resulted in an 8-episode series being made. Following that, a second 22-episode series followed, although did not recieve as much acclaim due to tension between Lynch and... more |

David Lynch is the master of surreal cinema, with his works Blue Velvet and Mulhollan Drive in particular recieveing considerable acclaim for their inventiveness and visual wonder. Bridging these two successes, though, he crafted a television show that stands as one of the most unique and inventive of all time, and has influenced numerous shows such as Desperate Housewives (which one of Twin Peaks' stars, Kyle McLachlan, now stars in). That show is Twin Peaks. The show covers the efforts of eccentric but thoroughly likeable Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan), as he investigates the murder of popular homecoming Queen Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). When Twin peaks first was shown, it began with a slightly weird sinister plot line, with the dead body of Laura Palmer being washed up wrapped in plastic and the subsequent FBI investigation. Along with lots of different sub-plots and characters some providing comic relief and others more serious. As the shows progressed, in the first series, it really drew you in and had a really sinister undertone which was like nothing else at the time. I recall shows such as LA Law and NYPD Blue being around at the same time and although I used to enjoy these, Twin Peaks kept me coming back for different reasons. It was partially a murder mystery, part horror, suspense, ... Read the complete review

Twin Peaks is a show from the 1990s that ran for two seasons. I remembered it being on but never watched it. Recently i was bought season 1 on dvd and i was hooked from the minute i started watching it. It centres on the small town of Twin Peaks where everything is idyllic until the body of one of the towns most popular girls Laura Palmer washes up on the beach wrapped in plastic. FBI Agent Cooper is called in to help the local Sheriff Department solve the crime that has effected each and every person in Twin Peaks. However, this doesn't prove to be that easy as the whole town is full of secrets that all lead back to Laura. I found this to be a ... Read the complete review

Premiering in the USA in 1990, TWIN PEAKS was a television show which ran for 2 seasons. It is impossible to specify the genre which the show fits into, as part of its purpose was to defy genre descriptions. At different points it can be classified as a soap opera, a mystery show, a comedy, a horror, and there are also some science fiction elements in some of the storyline. The show was created by David Lynch and Mark Frost. Lynch is primarily known as a film director, although he has also had a hand in other television shows, beyond TWIN PEAKS, such as the short lived ON THE AMERICAN CHRONICLES and HOTEL ROOM. He has also directed a number of commercials and ... Read the complete review

A decade and a half having now passed since I first saw David Lynch's masterpiece Twin Peaks, I've decided at last to put pen to paper (in a virtual sense) and write something about this truly exceptional and extraordinary series. "Exceptional" and "Extraordinary" are words that are perhaps overused these days in the English language; however, I remain, fifteen years later, utterly convinced that Twin Peaks deserved to be draped with such superlatives, and more. In a nutshell, this is in my experience the greatest TV drama series ever made. It is also so much more than a drama series, combining elements of the supernatural, of surreal and ...
