Advantages: Great Comedy, Charlie Sheen

Disadvantages: Not shown on any freeview channels

After recently catching 2 and a half men on the newly named Comedy Central (previously Paramount Comedy) for an entire weekend I realised how much I used to love this show and have been enjoying it since.

So what's it about?
-------------------------

Basically Charlie Harper (played by Charlie Sheen) lets his brother Alan (John Cryer) move in after he gets divorced. Alan turns to Charlie because he has a large house on the beach after a successful career as a jingle writer means that he has a lot more money than Alan.

Alan's son (Jake) comes to stay for weekends and the show follows them mainly around Charlie's large house showing what they get up to. Charlie is a serial womaniser while Alan is the straight-laced younger brother. Alan's ex-wife does not like Charlie and often is there to witness the undoing of Alan and Charlie as relationships go wrong or ideas turn bad.

The show is currently running season 6 (with over 20 episodes per season), with each episode being around 30 mins lone, which has seen Alan's son turn from a very young boy of about 6 into his teens, the actor who plays Jake is very talented and knows how to time a punch line!

The show is called 2 and a half men because when it started Charlie and Alan are the 2 and Alan's son is the half.

The show often has sex based jokes due to Charlie being with a different woman at every opportunity, at one point he has 3 different women in bed during just one day. He often tries to set his brother up with various past girlfriends with hilarious consequences.

Charlie has a housekeeper due to being a professional bachelor; her humour is very quick and can be quite dry at times, but always funny.

Although the stories are always based around one of the 3 men, Alan's ex-wife features heavily as does Charlie and Alan's mother with some shows being focused on their lives.

Would I enjoy it?
----------------------

Anyone who enjoys shows like Friends, M.A.S.H, King of Queens, Cheers and other similar American comedy shows would enjoy this. The language is a little racier than in some other comedy shows but only a few words here and there; not even in every episode but Comedy Central dub these out.

I am a fan of Charlie Sheen and enjoyed Hot Shots (is that me showing my age?) and when he appeared in Spin City and he doesn't disappoint in this series although he is starting to look his age (but still sexy).

Unfortunately this show is not being aired on any freeview channels so you need a cable/sky package to watch it or you will have to buy the box sets!

Summary: If you have access to Comedy Central give it a go, you might like it...I do!

Great review for a great show. Only thing, when it first started, Jake was 11.
