Two and a Half Men is an American comedy sitcom that premiered in 2003, and is currently showing its sixth season in the UK on Comedy Central (formerly Paramount Comedy). It follows the lives of Charlie Harper, his brother Alan, and Alan's son Jake, after Alan divorces his first wife (losing his house in the process) and moves himself and Jake into Charlie's posh Malibu beach house.

Main characters:

Charlie Harper - played by Charlie Sheen. Charlie earns a good living as a jingle composer and later in the series as a children's songwriter called 'Charlie Waffles'. He is a perpetual bachelor, and a main focus of the show is his endless stream of one-night stands and disastrous relationships.

Alan Harper - played by Jon Cryer. Alan is Charlie's younger brother and is pretty much his polar opposite. He is a mild-mannered chiropractor, and certainly has a lot less luck with the ladies than his promiscuous brother.

Jake Harper - played by Angus T. Jones. Jake is Alan's son with his ex-wife Judith, and is generally portrayed as being a bit of an underachiever at school. Jake's favourite pastimes are eating, sleeping, and eating again!

Other recurring characters include: Berta the housekeeper (Conchata Ferrell), Charlie and Alan's mother Evelyn (Holland Taylor), Alan's ex-wife Judith (Marin Hinkle), and the next door neighbour with stalker tendencies - Rose (Melanie Lynskey) among others...

The show has been extremely successful and has received 30 Primetime Emmy Award nominations - the show ended up winning four of those. It's also had two Golden Globe nominations.

I have personally only just discovered this show but I am hooked! I find it really funny and it's great comedy television that's entertaining and easy to watch in the evening. The only negative aspect I can think of is that some of the plotlines are quite similar. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys other US comedy sitcoms such as Friends.

Summary: It's pretty good! Makes me laugh but I don't think I could watch LOADS of it.
