Advantages: Entertaining
Disadvantages: Would you eat devilled kidneys?
Very watchable British cookery programme. Two Fat Ladies is still an entertaining cookery programme despite being filmed years ago.
Much of the gusto behind the programme comes down to the chemistry between the two great ladies themselves. At first glance these two un PC, game loving, braying matrons would seem to have stepped out of a 1930's novel but no, they are just two true characters quite unlike anyone else on TV.
Clarissa Dickson Wright and Jennifer Paterson traverse the country finding various locations to cook in, serving up meals in a lighthouse and a Convent for example. Recipies are demonstrated step by step with the two ladies working in tandem. These recipies are not for the faint hearted (or the weak hearted either) cream, lard, kidneys and butter abound. Obviously passionate about food, farming and tradition, recipes are interjected with reminiscences, stories and opinions from the two ladies.
Jennifer Paterson sadly died some years ago, while Clarissa pops up on various programmes and has written her autobiography, the shows still stand as a fitting if artery clogging tribute to a great double act.
Summary: Entertaining cookery programme
