Ugly Betty is an American TV show. Each episode lasts for around 45 minutes without the adverts and it is aired on channel in the uk. It is show once a week and repeated on E4.
Ugly Betty is about ugly duckling Betty. Betty wants to be a journalist but has trouble getting a foot in the door anywhere serious. She gets a job working as assistant to Daniel Mead who works at the magazine offices of Mode magazine. She is hired by Daniels father. He is sick of Daniel playing around with his assistants and hires Betty because he knows Daniel will not fancy her.
After sometimes together Daniel and Betty get used to each and forge and unusual friendship. Daniel relies on loyal Betty to get him out of trouble and organise all aspects of his life. In return Betty is rewarded with problems each week that she has to sort out, usually for Daniel himself. Daniel is deeply fond of Betty and although he is often inconsiderate and selfish, he does care about Betty and tries to help her with her career and give her the credit she is due.
Each episode has a different theme, problem or story and there's usually a moral at the end. Often Betty, although her intensions are always honest and good, is on the receiving end of bullying, teasing and evil. The is however always a moral to the story and although Betty doesn't always win or get what she wants, she is better off because she has told the truth or done the honourable thing.
I have watched Ugly Betty from the beginning and think it's a great show. Its always a bit sickening when they do the moral bit towards the end, but there's a lot of shows like that and you just have to go with that bit. It can be very funny and Betty is a great character, who, even with pressure from every angle, refuses to change who she is for the people around her.
They have covered a lot of different topics throughout all of the series including the immigration of Betty's father, single parent living with Betty's sister and love triangles with Betty and her boyfriend.
I like the show because they don't have some girl who looks likes a supermodel for the lead role. It's a bit more original than most shows on and I was very sorry to hear just a few days ago that they will no be making any more series.
Ugly Betty is about a girl who wears braces and glasses, has frizzy hair and has no fashion sense. But when she gets a job working at Mode magazine, everyone at the magazine is just as surprised at she is.
She becomes good friends with her boss, Daniel, but two other workers at Mode, Amanda, a self-centred beauty queen, and Mark, a gay self-centred beauty queen, never stop taking the mickey out of Betty's hideous fashion sense and lack of make-up and styled hair.
As well as this going on there's always something else to make working at Mode more exciting including the big boss's affairs and his wife's prison sentence, Daniel's womanising ways and Betty's own family's troubles.
Although this is a very silly show, with over the top actors and very unrealistic storylines, it really is great to watch. It's very funny and you can't beat the amount of drama that it contains. I did think this was going to be like The Devil Wears Prada where the plain and not-so-pretty girl ends up getting a make-over and looking stunning at the end, but this hasn't happened to Betty yet as she seems to like being different and not fitting in with the typical girl who works for a fashion magazine.
Even though it's quite silly and a lot of the storylines are unrealistic, there are parts that are very truthful and can cause you to laugh or even cry. I thought this would be a very girly show seeing as it's based around a fashion magazine but my partner enjoys it too so I think there's bits in this that cater for everyone's tastes.
When this show first came out I didnt really enjoy it but now I make my plans around this show! I absolutely love it. The storyline, the characters, the actors, the set and the show is just truly amazing!
The show is about a girl called Betty Swuarez, who works for a fashion magazine as an assistant of one of the owners of the company, Daniel Mead. Her dream job is to become an editor, which in the end of the third series she finally gets to become. Throughout the show, you see into the lives of the characters and really feel for the characters, especially Betty. Another owner of Mode is Wilhimena Slater is the bad guy in the show who makes things very interesting.
The Main Characters
Betty - The star of the show, a true sweet heart and not at all ugly!
Daniel - Betty´s boss, who is a nice guy, used to be abit of a womaniser but married Molly
Molly - Daniel´s wife, died of cancer at the end of series 3... very sad indeed
Wilhimena - The bad guy in the show
Claire - Daniel´s mum who hates Wilhimena with a passion!
Mark - Wilhimena´s assistant, with a good heart
Amanda - Mode Magazine´s receptionist, a funny character
Egnastio - Betty´s father, a good dad
Hilda - Betty´s sister, street wise woman with a strong personailty
Justin - Betty´s nepher, Hilda´s son, very into performing
I love the way in this show the storyline is kind of believeable and also you really do feel for the characters. Betty is a nice person and when something bad happens or if she really wants something, you want it too. As Daniel has now changed his ways, you really do grow fond of him and with his good looks aswel..that aint a bad thing.
A really great concept with a good storyline. I truly am addicted and will be hooked on this show for as long as its on. I recommend you watch this show, which is suitable for all ages! A light hearted yet heart warming show with all the emotions you can think of. As the show has been going on I believe it has gotten better. Cant wait for the next episode!
Ahhh my favourite sunday duvet day watch!
I find watching the ugly betty programmes soothing and easy to watch if you've had a long stressful week at work. Even the over the top style of character on this programme are a little far fetched i is still easy o relate different people in you office to the characters in the programme making it relatable and almost personal and therefore more enjoyable.
The mind of betty is fantastic she knows she's not pretty but really stands her moral ground through the different series. The mix of characters is hilarious and even my boyfriend who judged a book by its cover commenting that it looked ''girly and just ridiculus, plus its about a fashion mag!'' has turned a new leaf and has started to enjoy the programme - might have something to do half naked models on show?
I thooughly enjoy the sory of her life and I think she is a very relatable character because every woman doubts her appearance once in a while and its great o see someone succeed and work beyond something other than looks.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants to watch a light hearted programmes - recommended with a sunday hangover and a plate of biscuits. A proper feel good programme!
I hate to admit that I schedule most of my evenings around TV, but there are few programs I actually plan to watch because I actually enjoy them. Ugly Betty is one of the few, and I think many people would share that opinion because it seems to be a very popular program.
Ugly Betty is an American comedy-drama, with a lot of advertising and press behind it. Since it first aired in the UK, it seems to have attracted a host of fans. The show doesn't just appeal to fashion fanatics or those who consider themselves to be an Ugly Betty, and its original style has won it a broad audience.
The program is shown on Channel 4 at 10pm, but there are also repeats and online catch-ups in case you miss it. It's one of the few programs I actually record because I want to watch it and follow it, as it does hold an addictive quality to it.
Unsurprisingly, this show centres around the main character, Betty Suarez, a happy-go-lucky girl known for her peculiar fashion sense and braces. Initially, she lived with her father, brother and sister in New York after moving from Mexico. Although sidelined because of her appearance, Betty's kind heart and sharp intelligence drove her to 'follow her dreams' when she applied as an assistant at Mode Magazine.
Betty was originally hired by Bradford Mead to be his son's assistant, believing Daniel wouldn't sleep with her as she's not a Barbie doll off a conveyer belt like the rest of the women there.
As the series develops, so do the characters as we see Betty battle in the world of fashion, go through relationships and break ups, move out, move back home and balance her work with her family.
The show compromises of a top cast, with many well known names (such as Ashley Jenson as Christina and Eric Mabius as Daniel). Dispersed amongst the regulars are some guest appearances, such as the one made by Lindsay Lohan. Having a cast of known faces, as well as lesser-known ones, helps make this program all the more popular.
Obviously, being in a fashion bubble, these are all beautiful people. It's a little unrealistic, hence Betty is the odd one out in terms of appearance to highlight certain preconceptions and assumptions. The morals that arise throughout the storylines are quite blunt and easy to pick up on, like how beauty is skin deep, and I think that makes this show more accessible to the average, everyday viewer.
The storylines themselves can be quite outrageous, with unusual twists keeping us guessing what could happen next. Most notable is a murder scandal, a sex change operation on Daniel's brother and an assistant (Christina) acting as a surrogate for the steely Wilhemina Slater to continue the Mead bloodline.
In addition to the crazy storylines are the more believable ones, the little things that reflect incidents closer to home, such as the break-up of a relationship or the difficult decision between staying with family or becoming independent. I like the mix between the crazy and the ordinary, as it keeps the show interesting and colourful, but also allows you to relate to it.
The characters are brilliantly done and really bring life to Ugly Betty. Although stereotypical, their portrayal is interesting and comical, and it doesn't take long to warm to characters, even the ones you love to hate.
I believe the current series has 24 episodes, so there's enough to get settled into and follow avidly for a few weeks. ABC television has signed on for the 4th series, so fingers crossed we get more soon!
I wont say too much more about the characters or storylines, even though I'd love to try to remember all of the weird and wonderful things that have happened, because I don't want to ruin it for anyone!
I would definitely recommend this show if you haven't already seen it, or haven't become an avid watcher. It's easy to watch, warm, comical and light-hearted yet intelligently made. Considering the large number of fans Ugly Betty has, I think it's safe to say the show must be doing something right! :o)
The Ugly Betty phenomenom was shamelessly copied from a Argentinian daytime drama and transformed for the american audience into the truly absurd Ugly Betty. Set within the hallowed walls of Mode, the bitchiest hippest fashion magazine ever to grace the planet, Ugly Betty Suarez is a fish out of water. Sure shes got the brains and the drive and the determination but with blue braces, huge glasses, ridiculous hair (and a hairdresser for a sister) and less dress sense than someone who has been in a coma since 1960. She sticks out like a sore thumb.
The plot lines are attrocious, Bettys ex-boyfriends even more so. The inhabitants of the Mode office are ridiculous. What empire would survive with an alcoholic murderess at the helm backed up by a nymphomaniac son, a trans-sexual daughter (formerly son) and an adulterous husband (now dead) whose almost second wifes surrogate is pregnant with his child, a child concieved using a turkey baster and a sample collected from the autopsy table.
Ugly Betty follows in Bettys shoes as she lurches from disaster to disaster with a technicolour wardrobe which only a colourblind lunatic would choose to wear. Especially one who sort-of-lives at home with her gay teen queen fashion obsessed nephew.
The whole show is absurd, ridiculous and strangely compelling.
Channel 4, E4 at variuos intervals throughout the week and available free to watch streamed direct from 4OD, episodes last 43 minutes excluding adverts which are absent from 4OD broadcasts.
Ugly Betty, since its first episode, has appealed to me. It's a funny, sweet programme that can tug the heart strings as well as just be a little bit of fluff for a wednesday afternoon.
Based on an Argentinian show, 'Betty Fea', the show is based around a budding journalist, Betty Suarez, who finds herself in the aggressive, superficial world of a fashion magazine. Turning up for her first day in a rather unfortunate poncho, you know at once that Betty is not going to fit in! Befriending her boss, Daniel, and Christina, a colleague, she battles through family troubles, copious work troubles and problems of the heart.
There are some great characters in Ugly Betty. Betty herself is very likeable and I really root for her to do well. She's a little hapless and this makes her very endearing, and as you can guess, not great with guys, which makes her appear really sweet. In series 1, she had a romance with a guy called Henry, and I loved that story, really lovely and everyone was talking about it! On the other hand, there's the catty Wilhemina, whos biting comments and put downs are hilarious!
Showing on C4 at 10pm every Wednesday, this is a great, fun show with a big heart.
Ugly betty is a fantastic programme. It is shown on channel 4 on Wednesday evenings. Its currently in its third series. I personally think the present series is the best! It follows a girl in New York who wants to be an editor. We follow her from looking for an assistants job in the first series were she gets a job at Mode publications working for Daniel on a fashion magazine. As each series develops we see there friendship grow and how each support each other and betty becomes nothing less than a shoulder to cry on as well as a friend and colleague they have a brilliant friendship like no other boss/colleague relationship. We see the struggles of her family and how she has to balance life. She is not your typical fashion magazine worker she has a very individual fashion sense but that's why the normal person can relate to her! In the current season we see her leaving home and making it in New York she forms new friendships with old rivals in the office, her friendship is still growing with Daniel but she's becoming more and more dependant and less dependant on her family and past friends who carried her in the last season. We have just seen her enter for editor in training course with mark and hopefully she will end up a biog shot editor in future seasons. Fantastic series very happy channel four are showing this as it really is excellent viewing as well as a great pick up mid-week. Brilliant highly recommended to people of all ages!
Ugly Betty has been brightening up our screens since 2006. She may not be pretty but she is definitely funny!!
Ugly Betty's real name is Betty Suarez. She is a Mexican American living in Queens. It has been her dream to be involved in the high fashion high pace world of magazine publishing and lands a spot at Meade Publications as an assistant to the Editor in chief of Mode Magazine, Daniel Meade. Now, Betty is not what you would call high fashion. She is somewhat naive but a very trustworthy helpful girl with big dreams that no one can stand in the way of. She has a very quirky dress sense and is a little on the large size. I would say she is probably an average size woman but in the fashion world this positively makes her an elephant, something that she gets the mickey taken out of time and time again. She also wears braces on her teeth, big red glasses and has very birds nest type hair. She cares more about her career than her looks and has gone far on her instincts and good nature rather than relying on good looks like a lot of people in that type of work do. She gives hope to all those ugly girls out there looking for a break which I think is one reason why this show is so popular.
I also think this show works because it is a bit tongue in cheek and not afraid to make fun of itself. It's very gimmicky. It has been adapted from a Columbian television soap opera and it definitely has the same filming, dramatic scenes as this type of soap opera would. It's over the top and tacky but I think this is all the reasons that actually make it work.
The show is mainly set in the fashion offices of Mode. There is a great ensemble cast with lots of weird and wonderful characters which add to the storyline. Daniel her boss is a womaniser but has actual respect for Betty as someone who works for what she wants to achieve. They have actually formed a great friendship over the years and really look out for each other which is quite nice and trusting to watch. I'm a personal assistant too and have never had this kind of relationship with my boss but I think it would be quite nice on a certain level.
Daniel' nemesis is Wilhelmina Slater, the other Editor in Chief who he despises due to the fact that she is always trying to steal his job, his company and that she had a relationship with his late father which has related in a baby and an heir to the Meade fortune. I think she's a great character. She's played by the gorgeous Vanessa Williams. She does look fairly old now but she still has beautiful eyes in my opinion and is still very good looking. She wears amazingly clothes on the show and really portrays the role of a scary editor very well. She makes people afraid of her but demands respect at the same time, I guess a little bit like an Anna Wintour (American Vogue Editor) character.
The fashion on the show is great and they often show scenes inside the Closet, the place all the amazing shoes and clothes are kept where rumour has it you can help yourself from time to time.
Probably one of the best characters on this show is Amanda the receptionist. She's queen bitch of the office. She doesn't really ever do her job, it's a wonder she hasn't been fired years ago and spends most of her time gossiping with Mark, Wilhelmina's gay assistant. She's very thin and I have to admit it pretty and relishes in bugging Betty whenever she can. She does have some awesome one liners which are so cruel but you have to laugh at the genius of them.
I also like the inclusion of Betty's family in the show. They include her father, Ignacio, her older, glamourous but very tacky sister Hilda and her nephew Justin. They show that with the backing of a good family you can achieve anything as they are always there for Betty and will help her in any way possible.
In conclusion, it's fun, it's quirky, does not take itself too seriously and is a good way to spend an hour.
Ugly Betty is a comedy on Channel 4 and E4, it's about a girl in her twenties, who is a secretary of an owner of fashion magazine Mode, Daniel Mead. She came into the office as the "new girl", and nothing like the other women who work in the fashion industry. She's "fat" in their words...although she is about a size 12, maybe a 14 at a push, so in other words not fat at all! She has gaudy manky hair which she doesn't really care about, braces which give her the look of an overbite, and absolutely no fashion sense.
Because of this she is constantly picked on by her colleagues especially Amanda, Whilamina and Marc who have a little clique together...all against the Mead family. Whilamina wants to own Mead Prodcutions but everything seems to go wrong, when her fiance dies on their wedding day..who just so happens to be Bradford Mead...the father of Alexis and Daniel, and head owner of Mead Productions.
In the series leading upto the current, Betty (played by a not so Ugly America Farrera) had started to fit into Mode, and Daniel had come to rely on her. Last series she got into a bit of a love triangle when her boyfriend Henry got another girl pregnant during a break, and she hooked up with Gino, the Deli guy. But they both lost her when Henry had to go look after his baby, and Gino asked Betty to go to Rome with him and she refused, saying she wanted to just be friends.
Daniel found out he had a son from 13 years ago when a model he was dating in France got pregant, but didn't tell him about it...when she died, D Day (the 13 yr old son of Daniel!) went to France to look for his father, been told simply he was the head of the Mead Productions.
Whilaminia used Bradfords frozen sperm to impregnante Bettys best friend Christina (as she doesn't want to ruin her own figure!!!) who is now around 7 months pregnant, she did this so that the baby would be 1 of 3 of Bradfords children and so as much entitled to his money as the other two!!! But, somehow I don't think thats going to happen as she plans, but we will have to see how this series goes!!! :)
The show is actually pretty funny, I wasn't into it during the first series, but I started watching it last year and actually really started to enjoy it!!! The characters are funny, if a little excentric...and it annoys me that Betty isn't really all that ugly... the fact she doesn't straighten her hair or get rid of her stupidly thick fringe...also she never seems to go to a dentist with her brace...which has NOW been on for 3 years...seeing as you have a brace for around 18 months, this is very wrong...and her teeth are perfect below the brace so I can't see why it's on anyway...!!!! She could also wear contact lenses instead of thick glasses!!
It's as though they couldn't be bothered getting a trully ugly girl to play an ugly girl, there are plenty of them around to chose from, but they got a pretty girl and made her ugly by adding to her and making her look geeky and dorky. :-s
But I shall allow for that...lol! Other than that, the show is good, I don't think it shows a real life in a magazine, but it is a good watch!!! :)
Ugly Betty is an America comedy that's just finished airing its third season in the U.S and it has been renewed for a fourth. Ugly Betty is based on the Columbian show of a similar name 'Betty the ugly one' (Translated to english).
Characters and plot:
Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) is a nice but couragous girl from Queens, New York who certainly has a wierd fashion sense but she always tries to see the good in people no matter how horrible they are to her. She gets a job at Mode, a really popular, high fashion magazine and is put into a world she really knows nothing about. Bradford Meade is the head of the magazine and hires her as his son Daniel's (Eric Mabius) assistant because she just isnt beautiful enough.
Daniel is the new editor in chief of Mode and is a huge player. Bradford wants his son to stop playing around and concentrate on the magazine but he just doesnt seem able to do it. Betty and Daniel become great friends over the series' and generally help each other out a lot.
Wilhelmina Slater is Daniel's arch nemesis and she longs to have his position at the magazine. Wilhelmina's assistant is Marc who is gay and really fashionable. She has him running around after her all the time and he's pretty much willing to do anything she tells him to and he quite enjoys her scheming plans. Wilhelmina starts up a relationship with Bradford in order to get higher in the company.
Marc is best friends with Amanda the secretary who hardly ever does any work and never gives anyone their messages. Amanda is pretty much the dumb blonde and in a later season she thinks Gene Simmons is her biological father after finding out she is adopted. Marc and Amanda always make fun of Betty about her fashion sense and how quirky and ugly she is. Although to start off with, the 3 dont get on at all, in series 3 Betty lets Amanda share her new apartment and they become friends.
Betty's best friend is the seamstress at Mode, Christina (Ashley Jensen) and also befriends Henry the accountant who becomes one of Betty's love interests. Christina often helps Betty out and lets her use anything she wants from 'The Closet' in order to try and make her look a little bettter when needed.
Betty's family are also a big part of the show. Until season 3, Betty still lives at home with her dad Ignatio, her sister Hilda and Hilda's son Justin. Justin is very camp and although it isnt stated, everyone assume's he's gay and is made up when Betty lands this job thinking it will get him some benefits too but it doesnt really work out that way.
Daniel's dad is a main character to begin with but then his alcoholic mother Claire and transexual sister Alexis (formally Alex) are also introduced and become main characters in later seasons.
Betty must learn how to fit in working at a place where no one eats, is beautiful and very fashionable, 3 of the things she isnt. Although things dont start out too well for her she starts making quite a few friends and is ultimately Daniel's right hand woman. When Betty goes travelling he feels lost without her and never wants to lose her as his assistant but wants her to be happy and successful at the same time. We see Betty end up with a lot problems in her love life even though everyone thinks she's plain and boring. As well has having her own problems Betty must struggle with deciding whether to do as she is asked at work or standing by her beliefs.
One of the things i love about Ugly Betty is the fact they havent changed her the whole way throughout even though she works at a fashion magazine. I think if it had been a film she would have ended up getting a huge make over and being beautiful so im glad they didnt do this. Betty wears braces on her teeth and seeing as the show has been going on for 3 years now, she would have had them off by now (speaking from personal experiance) so hopefully they'll make this a little more realistic soon.
Ferrera plays the part of Betty extremely well and i think she is perfect for the role. She's quick and witty but can take on the more serious stories well. The rest of the cast are fantastic too, especially Mabius who plays Daniel. It's good to see him go from bad boy player to really sweet and in love. In season 3 he marries a woman with cancer and he carried off emotional and caring fantastically.
I love the variety of storylines. Ugly Betty has a great mix of comedy, drama and romance and you never know what you're going to get from one episode to the next.
I was extremely sad when I learnt that season 4 was going to be the last. Some shows run for at least 5 years and I feel like Ugly Betty didn't really get enough time. I loved this show and I will miss it a lot now that it has finished. I also think that the ending wasn't as good as it could have been . I was quite disappointed with how everything ended although some aspects were addressed well. Unfortunately, not everything was.
Betty is back for a third season this summer, and having watched them ahead of the UK release, i can now confirm lots of exciting drama!! But first, what is Ugly Betty?
Betty is a girl from Queens working in a big fashion magazine and because she isnt very good looking, has a bad sense of style, and doesnt live the high life, it follows her everyday life and all the comedic moments... and gosh there are so many!! Along with Marc, AManda, Daniel and her family, the show is absolutely hilarious, preying on modern affairs and celebrity culture, playing with stereotypes, but ultimately poses a question: Is appearance everything?
Not only is this show hilariously entertainin, but it is meaningful and presents many important human values and points out many problems that exist in society. It is a great watch and if you haven't gotten into it then do so this summer late June when it hits UK screens again!
Ugly Betty has been on our screens for the last few years. It is an American show, and has been on for 2 series. The first series was a lot longer than the 2nd, due to the American writers strike that happened partway through series 2 - Thanks writers for taking Prisn Break, Lost, Desperate Housewives AND Ugly Betty off our screens - all of my favourite shows! Anytime this is on it is on the Channel 4 set of Channels, so E4 tends to premier the episode and it is followed up on Channel 4. You can buy the dvd box sets from most retailers.
Anyway onto the show. the main character in the show is Betty Suarez. She lives with her dad, sister Hilda and Hlda's son Justin in Queens New York. They are of mexican/Columbian decent and they seem quite proud of their heritidge - such as decor in the home, tv shows, food etc. Betty loves to write so she applied for a job at "Mode" Magazine. Nothing wrong there surely? Well Betty isn't exactly part of the elite Fashion set. She is short, dumpy, has puppy fat and dresses horrendously. If any of you have watched this, how funny did she look in her job interview with her poncho? She also has thick glasses, wire braces on her teeth and hair that just hangs and has no style to it. Strangely enough she is hired. Her ability is great, but she doesn't fit into the life as much as the size 0 models.
Others tend to bitch at her at work, but over the episodes we see Betty turning from a quiet, shy young lady into someone who can answer back and throw in a few sarky comments. She meets a boy at work called Henry, ends up falling in love with him, but it doesn't exactly go smoothly. Amanda the receptionist is pretty nasty to Betty, but Betty can handle herself. Amanda's gay best friend Marc is pretty bitchy as well, but you find there is a lot of stereotypes in here - the bitchy gay guy, the bulemic girls, and so on. It is done in a humourous way and shouldn't really offend anyone too much.
It is just really watchable. Sure some of the plot lines seem a bit far fetched, and other things you wouldn't see in real life, but it is only a sit com.
I know they can't make this storyline go on forever, but I hope they hurry back with new material soon. it is a feel good show in which it shows you don't have to be a pretty face to have a good heart - often that's the best way!
I am unashamed to admit that I, a macho male type, have become an avid viewer of this multi-award winning, Stateside comedy. I rate this show alongside other US favourites, of mine, Cheers, Friends and Frasier.
The story centres around "ugly" Betty Suarez (wonderfully portrayed by America Ferrera), her family (father, sister and nephew) and the owners and employees of the New York based fashion magazine Mode.
Betty is a warm, lovable character who has a big heart and unique dress sense. She lands a dream job at Mode and soon becomes the friend and confident of her womanising, playboy boss Daniel Meade. There are numerous interweaving storylines which stretch the imagination to the extreme. The wicked witch of this pantomine is Alexis, delightfully played by Vanessa Williams, and her oh so very camp sidecick Marc is a comedic masterpiece.
Well scripted and brilliantly acted this modern classic covers murder, sex-change, a prison break, more paternity/maternity quandries than you could shake your hat at, Borgia-like family treachery and so very much more. It is a tour de force and as slick as they come.
Just over two years ago, this huge American TV series exploded onto our screens, and we have never looked back. I am of course talking about the amazing Ugly Betty. When it comes down to comedy, I dont usually like the American shows, apart from the Simpsons of course, but this one has be hooked. Basically it is all about a young girl who works as the assistant to the editor of a huge national fashion magazine, and the title comes from the fact, that Betty, isnt much to look at, and doesnt fit into the world of fashion.
There are many people who really dont like this show, and most of them are men, and this is possibly due to the fact that it is probably aimed towards females, it just has that feel. But me, I think it is great, and so funny, yet so dramatic and emotional, featuring some tough storylines. I can see why the Americans like this show so much, as it is way too over the top, and it isnt what this countru is used to, but for some reason, the whole population has grown towards it. As far as I am concerned, I think that it has an amazing cast, joined with an amazing script, to make an amazing show.
So far, it is currently into its thrid series, and there are rumors that it will continue into its fourth and fifth season, which I hope are true. Of course all good things have to come to an end, but I hope we get some more great comedy out of this shpw first. My advice would be to buy the first and second series boxsets, get caught up, and watch the third. Its the best.
