Ugly Betty is an American drama/ comedy series about a Latina girl from Queens New York, who wants to make it as a magazine editor but has to start off as an assistant to get to where she wants to be. Betty isn't the prettiest or thinnest of girls and is finding it very hard in her job at Mode, a fashion magazine, where everyone around her is very shallow and just cares for their waist lines and how they look and they're often making things hard for Betty because she's different.

Betty lives with her father Emilio Suarez, her sister Hilda and her nephew Justin. Her dad has come to the US as an immigrant from Mexico with her mother (who is now dead) and is having trouble staying in the US, as he's not legal. Her sister is finding it hard to find love as every man she meets just ends up leaving and Hilda's son is very much into musicals and broadway and is finding it hard to be himself around his peers.

At work, Betty is the assistant to Daniel Mead, the son of the head of Mead Publications and others feel that he doesn't deserve his job, simply because he's his fathers son and got everything handed to him on a silver platter. There's Willimina Slater (played by Vanessa Williams) who is creative director but wants Daniel's job and to take over Mode magazine, she has a sly gay assistant called Mark who likes to plot schemes with her. Then there's Amanda the receptionist who makes life hard on Betty and keeps picking at her because Betty doesn't like to conform and just enjoys eating and dressing how she wants.

I like this series and it's been entertaining and I've been watching every week.
