Advantages: Hilarious, Bizzare, Original
Disadvantages: Sometimes a bit too mad
At a time when the country was under the rule of the conservatives and Margret Thatcher, every comedian worth his salt was doing their part to make the tories look as stupid as possible. All credit to them, but this made for comedy which was quite heavy going... Enter Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, men on a mission to amuse. Sporting a completely politics-free act they set out first and foremost to make themselves laugh, and others could join in if they wanted. And how they did. Bizzare situations, crazy props and improptiu frying pan battles made up the bulk of the show, with a few recurring characters and sketches. Later on they would end with a song from Bob which would be uncerimoniously disrupted by Vic with a flying hoover, a monkey playing tennis or something more bizzare. Remember the man with the long stick? The crazy impressions? Or the huge carpet of wierd props on Vic's desk. The show oozed creativity and madness simoultaneously from every pore, one week they would be re-enacting This is your life using a kids xylophone and a block of marzipan, the next cycling through middle england advertising a compilation CD sung by a pair of man-breast sporting individuals. Twisted and anarchic, you would never be able to guess what was happening next. Vic and Bob are the kings of non-conformist humour.
