Advantages: Well acted, good script, gripping TV

Disadvantages: If you hate schools, then don't bother!

I first came across Waterloo Road about 3 years ago when I was channel hopping one evening. The programme looked quite interesting, so I decided to stick with it. Three years later and I now never miss an episode!

The programme is based around a secondary school in Greater Manchester and covers the lifes of both the teachers and students. Actors include Neil Morrissey (who plays Eddie Lawson, the deputy head), Eva Pope (Rachel Mason, the head), Denise Welch (Steph Haydock, the French teacher) and Angela Griffin (Kim Campbell).

The programme is basically like Grange Hill, but much more hard core! Lots of stories have been covered, including a fire, shooting, car accident, deportation, murders, affairs and teenage pregnancies. It's certainly never quiet at Waterloo Road!

It is always gripping TV and very well acted. I think that some of the students on the programme will go on to big stars, especially the likes of former stars Tom Payne (Brett Aspinall), Lauren Drummond (Mika Grainger) and Ellie Paskell (Maxine Barlow).

If you fancy giving the programme a try, it is on BBC1 every Wednesday night at 8pm.

Summary: Probably the best drama on TV at the moment
