Advantages: Keeps kids entranced for 20 minutes
Disadvantages: Tedious viewing for accompanying adults
Waybuloo is the start to the CBeebies bedtime hour - a nice signal for my daughter to wind down and me to look forward to a nice peaceful evening (I live in hope).
The opening titles of this alone are enough to make my baby stop in her tracks, she once stopped crying mid yell when she heard and saw this so I do believe it is a magic programme. 20 minutes of floaty coloured creatures interacting with hyperactive children keeps her quiet until bathtime.
For me as an adult it is beyond tedious however. I love watching In the Night Garden with my daughter and some of her other shows, but when this is in I have to ensure I have a magazine or other distraction (she likes to watch it sat on my lap). It is very repetitive, the 4 piplings (2 male, 2 female) conform to gender stereotypes (the boys are loud, the girls very timid) they play the same games every day. The end of the show is always 'yogo' where the piplings and children get in various poses (lion, bridge).
That said, I am not the target audience and anything that makes the wind down for bed easier is a god send, I just wish it were slightly less formulaic!
A nice peaceful program for babies, accompanied, naturally, by an extensive merchandising arm - no doubt my home will be full of this come Christmas!
Summary: A nice start to bedtime, very attractive to babies
