'The Weakest Link' is a quiz show which was first broadcast in the UK in 2000. Hosted by Anne Robinson, the programme had it's 1,000th edition last year, and is popular throughout the world.

In the game, nine contestants take turns answering general knowledge questions. For each correct answer given, the money increases for the next question. However, if a contestant answers incorrectly, the money raised in the current run of answers is reset. If a contestant says 'bank' before their turn, then the current money raised is safely stored and questions start again from £0.

Sounds good? - well it's not really my cup of tea.

I don't know what it is that I find most annoying about the Weakest Link. Perhaps it's the fact that the show is incredibly repetitive, and I only have a (relatively) short attention span. Perhaps it's because the questions just aren't taxing enough, or maybe it's because of Anne Robinson in general.

Robinson plays the part of a dominatrix style character who 'pretends' to be stern towards the contensts. This was quite novel when the show started, but in the last few years the role has begun to wear thin. She will always use the same formulaic lines, for example after a round, it will be common to hear something like "which village is missing their idiot", or something equally cruel. In fairness to her, Anne Robinson is occasionally funny, but in the majority of cases it her humor isn't that great.

My only experience of the show nowadays, is if I come across it whilst flicking through channels - however, it won't stay on long! I find the Weakest Link bearable, but in general, it's far too predictable for my liking.
