Is this programme still on, at one point it was one of the most popular gameshows on TV.

Hosted by Anne Robinson the premise of the gameshow is that there are 9 people who each have to answer a question in clockwise order, they can bank the pot for the team at any point but when somebody answers a question wrong they lose the pot entirely for the team.

At the end of each round each contestant then has to vote on who should be kicked out of the quiz, most will vote off the weakest link, some vote for people they don't like and some vote for people simply on some pre-held prejudice.

In view of this its not a case of the smartest person winning, its a case of the least offensive smart person winning. The final round is a penalty shoot out type quiz with the remaining two contestants answering 5 questions each and the winner being the person with most correct answers, they take the entire pot won by everyone.

The format is fine, it can be annoying when somebody is voted off for what they are not how well they've done and this is the formats real downfall.

For a while the BBC decided to milk the cash cow and had celebrity versions every week, this just made it even clearer that the less popular people would be out early no matter what their knowledge, or with the case of model or sportsmen specials old scores could be settled rather than people voting on the basis of skill. The programme appears to have settled now for a 17:30 slot on BBC1 on weeknights and is fine as a distraction but nothing more, its not gripping tv.

The idea was that Anne Robinson was something amazing because she's rude, well to be fair thats all she is, she's scripted, totally bland and rude, you only watch to hope that people can give her a taste of her own medicine, not to watch her hilarious (!) putdowns of others.

Its like tv bullying, if you like that kind of thing, if not, there are far more interesting quizzes out there!
