Advantages: Razor sharp wit, easy to follow format
Disadvantages: Not taking me on the show
Even now I love the Weakest Link its almost become a institution like a Countdown or Mastermind.
The show debut on BBC2 in 2000 and it quickly built up a cult following. The games format is a group of nine contestants who are asked a question in turn to attempt to build up a chain of correct answers before they reach a target of £1000 which they can bank for the next round. Whilst answering questions during the round the conestants can chose to bank at any point but if this is done your chain reverts back to zero, also if someone gets a question wrong the score also returns to zero. Once the round is over each contestant gets to write on a board who they believe is the weakest link and whoever recieves the most votes is then kicked off the show, this repeats until there are two left and then it goes to a head to head to win the prize fund.
The shows format is simple but what makes this show stand out is presenter Anne Robinson who at the end of each round gets talks to the contestants, this isnt a lovey-dovey chat like you would see in Family Fortunes this is a quite scathing attack by Anne to a contestant and their attempts to not be put off or in the odd case give Anne back as much as she gives. This adds a whole different level to the show and is probably the reason i keep returning to it.
I was however quite upset when i applied to the show on the application form there is a section that entitled "What you wouldn't like Anne to ask you about" which i thought was a bit of a Kop out meaning Anne can only abuse you on things you chose to let her, but i guess it is a disclaimer that has to be in in case someone runs off the show crying.
This show has sparked many celebrity specials and was taken over to the US and also hosted by Anne but its the traditional UK one thats for me and as i sit here writing this review i have just put it on until my dinner is ready and i shall do this tomorrow and the day after.
Summary: A great way to fill in 45 mins until dinners ready
