Advantages: Good idea - can be very cruel
Disadvantages: Ann Robinson
It must be the pressure. But the contestants on this show make those on Who Wants to be a Millionaire look like they could be on Mastermind, and that is surely saying something. However, it is the most riveting quiz show since WWTBAM - (which is now getting incredibly frustrating with both the idiocy of the first five questiosn and the ridiculous difficulty of the last 3 or 4). It is a very simple, yet very clever show. If you haven't watched it is a very nasty version of 15:1. Nine contestants, I think, stand in semi circle facing Anne Robinson. They answer questiosn in turn, but winnings go into a group pool. And these go up a ladder, so one question right is £20, if the next is right then £50, £100, £200 and so on. But get one wrong and the total goes back to zero. Contestants can bank at any stage (some panic ank bank at £50), in which case the money is safe. But - at the end of each round, one person has to be eliminated. This is supposedly to be the weakest link, with the idea that one person is left after a final head to head shoot out. The contestants thermselves vote, and in early rounds, the more inompetent (of a bad bunch) usually and routinely get ejected - only to be given a quick interview in which some sour grapes can arise. But towards the end, contestants start to realise that they may no fare too well in the final penalty shoot out type end game against a smart alec, so sometimes the strongest person is rather cruelly ejected. So should contestants look like they are not too clever, but clever enough to stay in through the early rounds. very clever. the winner usually takes home between £2000 and £4000 out of a supposed £10000. I haven't mentioned Ann Robinson - she annoys me to death - both with her catch phrase "you ARE the weakest link...goodbye", and with her general sneering and crooked thing she probably thinks is a smile. How she is is the best paid journalist in the count
ry beats me given the pathetic stories that fill 90% of watchdog, I don't know...but perhaps its personal and others like her. She suits this show I guess. The show is normally on BBC2, but a champions show has just been shown on BBC1. This was proof that the best contestants don't win that often!
