Advantages: Briliant host
Disadvantages: Tactical voting can make best contestant lose
The Weakest Link has come in for a lot of criticism since it was first shown on BBC2, most of it aimed at the shows host Anne Robinson. It is a programme which you either love or hate, and obviously a lot of people love it, as a new "Champion's League" version is now shown at prime time on BBC1. The Weakest Link has a very good format. The 9 contestants answer questions in turns and try to win up to £1000 per round (except the last round in which £3000 is available). Every time a question is answered wrong the team lose all the money they have won since a player "banked", and every round is ten seconds shorter than the previous one. The best part of the show is at the end of each round when players vote off the player they believe to be "The Weakest Link". The only problem with this is that during the later rounds, tactical voting is used to vote off the strongest link, so people can improve their own chances of winning. The performance off Anne Robinson is superb, despite much criticism. She regularly insults team members telling them they are pathetic and useless, and sends contestants off the programme with the chilling words ,"You are the weakest link. Goodbye"

- 24/11/00 I cannot understand why you've rated me NU when you're coming out with mediocre stuff like this yourself. I'd appreciate knowing why. :) |

- 20/11/00 I found this programme quite bizzare when first viewed but after a couple of times I find it compelling. Anne Robinson is very amusing and her act on the show should be treated as just that and makes a refreshing change from the old smiley smuggies that usually host game shows. Her smile at the end says it all...its just a game with some hard faced acting making for interesting viewing. |
