Advantages: Thick contestants....
Disadvantages: .... but it's still good fun to watch
I apologise to the dooyooer who has been on this show but I really have to say this... My god, where do they find these people? My overriding impression of the majority of the contestants is that they are all extremely thick. Not only do they seem unable to get the simplest of questions right, they also have a tendency to vote off the most intelligent members of the team early on, leaving the complete dummies to compete in the later, harder rounds. What really ticks me off though is that they have such a lack of tactical thought. If I was on that show, I would really have to try hard to restrain myself from thumping those annoying people who shout "Bank!" every time the question passes to them, and usually do so in a very annoying voice. Don't these people realise that you can't reach a £1000 target by banking dribs and drabs of £20 here and £50 there? I can understand it in the later rounds, where the questions are a bit harder, but in the early rounds, the question are so easy that a team of five year olds could build a decent chain, and even if you do go wrong, there is time to go back and start again and still reach the target if you bank intelligently. You are far more likely to maximise earnings by repeatedly trying for one long chain than you are by shouting "bank!" every time you've got 20 quid in the pot... it make me want to scream!! Banking below £200 is completely useless... unless you are in one of the later rounds where the questions are impossible and you're less likely to build a decent chain and should bank anything you can get... But in the early rounds, the £1000 is just there for the taking, and if the contestants showed any signs of intelligence, then they would get it every time, as they always answer enough consecutive questions. It's just that the dimwits keep calling bank when there's peanuts in the pot instead of waiting for the cash t
o build up... thereby resetting the chain and wasting time. Another thing that annoys me - people that stand there when the clock's about to run out and there's money in the pot, and Anne's urgently screaming their name as if to say "Time's almost up, you should bank now!” and they just stand there and stare into space... it may only be £20 or so sometimes, but sometimes it's been £200, that could be added just by banking when there is not enough time left for the question to be asked even, let alone answered and then passed to the next person to bank.... WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING? WHERE DID THEY LEAVE THEIR BRAINS? Grrrrr Hmmmm, what else? Oh yeah, the really, really annoying thing is when some old fart gets voted off, having displayed a complete lack of general knowledge, and then starts on about "I think Jimmy will be voted off next because he's too young and is less likely to have good general knowledge..." WHAT? What strange kind of warped logic is that???? Probably the same kind that got said old fart voted off in the first place... if anything, the younger contestants seem to be better educated and exhibit a broader range of knowledge. The older contestants in contrast (not all of them, but the ones that come out with this youth = no knowledge rubbish) seem to know nothing about anything - especially more "modern" topics. It really ticks me off when they gang up on the young guy or gal when said young person has had an excellent round, and they have all been appalling, and then go on about how they're voting off because of that person's age... it makes me soooo mad!!!! Oh yes, final thing that I'm going to rant about - people who get questions of the type "What H is..." (You know the type) and then come out with something that doesn't start with H... It's just a case of "What? She just told you it started wi
th H you moron!!!" Anyway, it is still great fun to watch, if only to answer all the questions before the contestants do, getting a much higher proportion right and shouting abuse at the screen. (Yes, I do realise that I have deep-rooted psychological problems!!) Anne is great... although I did love it the other night when the Geordie guy insulted her outfit... classic! She didn't know what to say. I realise that this one has been something of a rant, but grrrr, it make me so angry! Anyway, I'm off to post my application, so I too can be voted off for being “too young” after having banked £1000...

- 12/02/01 I think "bit" is probably being a bit generous to me... it was a very big rant! :)
I'm unfortunately very prone to them though... |

- 12/02/01 I think it's probably better to vote those cleverer than you off as late as possible... exploit them before you get rid of them... (assuming you survive that long yourself!)
btw biggerdeffer, I'm calm **deep breaths** :) |
