The Weakest Link is, along with Who Wants to be a Millionaire, one of the most popular game shows around. Yet why is a mystery. It does not give out large amounts of money (a record of under £4,000) and the questions are a lot more demanding than other shows. The atmosphere is also intimidating, but still people tune in.

The secret to the show is the attitude of the presenter, Anne Robinson. Rather than follow the trend, she joys in scaring the contestants rather than being friendly, like, for example, Chris Tarrant, and she is also rude. Recently she reached the limit, as, talking to a high-up female police officer, she asked if she had used her feminism to work her way to the top. This is clearly a rude, degrading comment which is not acceptable on a show watched by all ages.

However, she still draws the crowds. It seems that outside the show she is not so bad - married - but her style of questioning is fascinating to watch, even if it is pathetic in the extreme. It is a miracle that people do not answer back to her, indeed this has happened, particularly on celebrity episdoes, such as comedians.

It is also surprising that people waste a considerable amount trying to phone and get through, when there is a very small likelihood of getting on the show, and not a gigantic sum to be won.

However, this show is refreshing a new approach to presenting. Fortunately people have not attempted to copy her, and when the show was shown in America, she stayed with it, rather than there being an American presenter, which would have taken all the fun out of an amusing, enjoyable show.
