Advantages: Mary-Louise Parker for one, and the intelligent humour for another
Disadvantages: None that I can think of
Well I must say that I really am very surprised to find myself writing the first review of this excellent television program.
Ever since I saw Mary-Louise Parker in The West Wing I have just felt that there is something so sexy about her, so with her being the lead in this...well I'm in heaven haha!
Ok let's try and get away from the primal red blooded reason for watching this and offer a more subjective opinion;O)
Like all the best shows the most striking thing here is the humour present in not always the most obviously funny situations. Some of it just makes me smirk while other bits have me laughing out loud. lolling if you will. Anyone who watched the episode in question couldn't fail to smile after Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker) found out the cause of a blockage in their drains and then after a failed attempt at the birds and bees talk with her son gave the brother-in-law the job of having a 'man chat'. Next thing the son appears to be eating a lot of bananas which has surely got to be good for him right haha!!??
But anyway I'm running away with myself here and as the first member to provide a review I guess some sort of a synopsis is very much necessary.
The story begins with a recent widow and mum of two (Nancy Botwin) struggling to make ends meet, after her husband died suddenly from a heart attack, who through contacts of her husband decides to sell a little pot. So the useless waste of space slacker that is the previously mentioned brother-in law appears on the scene needing a roof over his head and never leaves....and there we have the Botwin household.
From here the plot branches out in many different directions as Nancy encounters the usual parenting pitfalls while trying to be a good friend to her alcoholic neighbour as well as deal with the many issues a suburban pot dealer must learn to deal with. Oh yeah and then there's the issue of boyfriends/love interests and that can get really complicated in her line of work!
I think one of the best things about Weeds is that with some things I have to really feel in the right mood to watch them. With this it's always just so easy to pick it up and get right in to the story nice and quickly. Putting it down again is another matter though as following in the tradition of all such shows you can pretty much guarantee a cliffhanger just when you are thinking....I'll go to bed after this episode.
Summary: Totally addictive!!
