Advantages: Funny, addictive.
Disadvantages: Because it's aired primarily in America it takes a long time to filter onto British T.V.
This American series has got to be one of the most addictive shows on Earth! This is the story of a REALLY desperate housewife, Nancy Botwin (Mary Louise Parker) who is recently widowed and becomes a pot dealer in order to keep up her family's suburban lifestyle. Surely...you would think, that living in the suburbs would be a big obstacle for gaining clients, but it soon emerges that customers can crop up in the most surprising of places.
With an amazing cast playing characters who all have secrets that they believe to be shock horror, until that is they find out Nancy is dealing. Although she tries her best to hide it from those close to her - her sons, Shane and Silas soon figure out what's going on.
In the first season we find out each characters "secret" which in the suburbs is never really a secret at all. Then as Nancy's dealing becomes more successful we see her move through a chain of suppliers, friends and enemies until she eventually unknowingly ends up dating (or should I say sleeping with) a DEA agent - Peter Scottson. With this dramatical ending Nancy wonders how long it will be until she is uncovered.
Season two is "funnier, darker and even more daring". Now that Nancy's business is a hit she has to find better ways of protecting herself and hiding her business. With friends Celia, Doug and Conrad joining her for this addictive season as well as her brother in law Andy, Nancy takes bigger risks, makes bigger decisions and toys with the big boys in the business.
Mary-Louise Parker won a Golden Globe for her performance on the show, and Jenji Kohan won a WGA award for her screenplay for the pilot episode.
Following the series is well-worth while and seasons 3 and 4 bring with them even more drama, comedy and addictive personalities!
"Weeds is a highly original, edgy drama with a great black comic streak"
Summary: "Intelligent, dry-witted drama"
