Advantages: Highly humorous, a bit of drama, sex appeal and suspense too
Disadvantages: None
Weeds is the best Television series to come out of the US in a long-time, I watched the 4 series back to back last summer and found them highly entertaining with fun and interesting story lines, an entertaining comedy with splashings of drama, suspense and sex appeal.
From the opening credits with the funky soundtrack "Little Boxes", I was drawn in to the program, the story revolves around Nancy Botwin (played by the beautiful Mary Louise Parker) whose husband suddenly keels over into a bush whilst running and dies, Nancy and her family live a life of moderate luxury and to retain this type of lifestyle, she decides to turn to drug dealing with a contact obtained from her step-brother, the lazy pot-smoking layabout Andy Botwin.
Living in the leafy Californian suburbs of Agrestic, a posh housing estate with big houses where people live seemingly perfect lives - we get to know all the habits and going ons of the neighbours. The children, in particular Shane Botwin are hillarious and Andy's range of strange and deranged girlfriends are also a laugh. When Nancy gets together a team of people growing and selling marijuana, we are introduced to a whole range of quirky characters as well as some guys who mean business.
The programme seems to get heavier and heavier as the series goes on and whilst the decisions Nancy makes are highly unbelievable, this ensures that the storyline evolves and that there is plenty of interesting episodes. My personal favourite character from this show is Doug Adams played by the hillarious Kevin Nealon.
There's a lot of cool music in this show, I find it to be a perfect mix of Sex and the City, The Sopranos and something a whole lot more humorous. Personally it's my favourite US series ever. The episodes always end so that you want to watch the next one urgently!
Summary: Great story lines
