Advantages: Insights into those you can laugh at

This series is made up of a number of self contained shows which have Louis Thereoux meeting different celebrities and in another series he has gone out and about to meet extreme groups and those at the edges of what is deemed normal society.

In this particular series the emphasis was on minor celebrities or rather those who were once quite famous but have slipped somewhat in the fame stakes over recen times. The idea is to have those celebrities who seem to take themsleves a bit serious and the rather wet approach that Thereoux uses where he appears to muddle through is actually a bit of a front that hides a shrewd journalistic mind that is adept at getting under the skin of people to allow the to reveal their true selves.

The show he did with Paul Daniels and his wife Debbie McGee was one of the more cringe worthy of the lot and it did provide an insight into their life style although you could sense that neither person were totally prepared to let their guard down with Thereoux.

On the whole I quite like his type of presentation and narration however at times I find that I think he could have pushed things a bit further in order to get answers to questions he has posed rather than letting people avoid the question.

Summary: Documentary style fly on the wall.
