Advantages: very funny
Disadvantages: UK version!
WHAT IS IT ABOUT:
A comedy show based on a group of comedians giving improvised performances revolving around props, scenarios and songs. The show began in the 80s on UK TV, but now resides in the US, and is hosted by Drew Carrey, with Ryan Stiles and Colin Mockery as regular participants.
IS IT ANY GOOD:
Yet again the US have beaten the UK at their own game. The older, UK, episodes are very hit or miss, with the quality depending totally on the guests. When Tony Slattery is on I just about want to vomit. Yes, the two best guests were always Ryan Stiles and Colin Mockery. I think they knew this, and so they took the show back to the US and re-vamped it into one of the most entertaining shows I've ever seen.
The show is quick paced, with rounds well known to viewers, all of which require quick thinking and improvisation. For example, pairs will be given odd props (such as a huge inflatable square) and take it in turns to act out scenarios that incorporate the prop. Because they've been on the show for so long, Mockery and Stiles are just brilliant at this, and I often find myself falling around laughing.
Drew Carrey, as host, often takes part in one two games per show, and does a great job himself.
IN CONCLUSION:
The UK version is very hit or miss (although occasionally brilliant) but for consistent high quality fun, try the US version.
WHERE TO WATCH:
Both versions of the show are regularly featured on the 'Dave' channel.
Summary: watch it on Dave
