Advantages: Funny, Comical, Hilarious
Disadvantages: Aired at stupid times
The first time I watched this show I was in tears of laughter. It is one of the funniest shows on TV. Better still it is on terrestrial TV, on channel 4. It is a comedy game show where the contestants (2 of which are on every show) compete to win the show. However the competition isn’t serious, in that respect it is much like ‘shooting stars’ where the aim is not to win – but to entertain. The show is hosted by Clive Anderson, who issues the challenges to the contestants. The challenges all have the same basis – improvisation; however they are different every week. Here are a couple of examples of the challenges that the contestants must do… There is a box of wigs/masks and the four contestants must take it in turns to do a dating video using one of the wigs/masks. This produces some hilarious consequences with all the actors trying to be the funniest. A pianist plays some music in the background and each contestant much sing a verse in a certain style on a certain theme decided on by the audience. The last time I saw this the theme was ‘coffee’ and the style was ‘rap’. Now this may seem impossible, how could anyone make up a rap song about coffee on the spot, let alone make it funny? Well these guys (and occasionally girl) manage it… most of the time! On this show the actor’s talent for improvisation are tested to the limit, which makes for extremely funny viewing. Every show is different; the audience decide the topics for most of the challenges. Unlike most shows, this one doesn’t have a fixed schedule, it is not one certain game followed by another. Each week some games are included and others are not, and the order is different as well. At the moment you can catch ‘Who’s Line is it Anyway’ on Channel 4. Although the times vary slightly from week to week, it is normally on late Sunday a
nd Friday nights (some time between 12am and 3am [technically early Monday and Saturday]).
