Advantages: Its good tv, entertaining
Disadvantages: loads of breaks
Wife swop is originally a channel 4 programme thats now being shown on E4 once a week. Some are repeats, and others are new programmes but it seems to chop and change every week.
A wife or girlfriend from 2 families goes to each others house for 2 weeks. They usually tend to be complete opposites. For example, one house may have loads of rules for the children, and another might have none at all and the children rule the house.
For one week the wife has to live as the family normally does, changing nothing. This doesnt go down well, a lot of the husbands are very chauvanistic, or aggressive and have nothing much to do with their childrens upbringing. Other dads are really helpful around the house, and sometimes the wife that steps into that feels like theres nothing for her to do.
Then the 2nd week, the wife gets to put all her own rules in, to try and help the family to change or grow closer. This is met by a lot of stroppiness from both dad and kids in most houses. However a lot of the rule changes make the family think that they could be doing better.
At the end they have a big argument with both couples reunited. The women are always very defensive when the other criticises the way their children or family behaved. Theres lots of shouting and crying, and they very rarely have a civilised conversation
I think this programme makes really good tv. Its interesting to see how other people live, and how they behave around complete strangers. I like the bit after the couples are reunited to see if any of the rules have stayed, or if it has just gone back to normal. I think one time a couple actually split up!
You can also watch this on 4 on demand if you miss it, as there are a lot of breaks and it gets really annoying. I prefer to watch it uninterrupted with no breaks.
Summary: Watch it on catch up

- 05/04/09 A bit like Jeremy Kyle this one, people are deliberately set up with people who will rile them. Bear baiting for the 21st century. Awful stuff |
