Disadvantages: formulaic
Wife Swap is an hour long show on Channel 4 at 8.00 pm on Sundays. Channel Four is currently running new episodes. Channel Four describes the show as a documentary, but it is better characterised as reality or light entertainment.
The premise of Wife Swap is that two wives/girlfriends swap houses and lives for two weeks in the other woman's house. During the two week period they are not allowed to contact their partner or children.
Prior to the swap, each woman outlines how their household works and their regular routine. In the first week of the swap, each woman has to live by the household rules. In the second week each woman can change the rules and run the household differently, usually closer to the way that theit own household is run. Every weeks there is tantrums, tears and shouting matches.
The show is set up so that the women are always opposite, for example:
Traditional stay at home mum swaps with career woman
Woman obsessed with cleaning swaps with woman who never picks up a hoover.
At the end of the two week period, the women and their partners meet and all sit around a table and it normally ends in a big shouting match.
It is an entertaining show, but the premise is now wearing a bit thin.
Summary: Wife Swap - Channel Four on Sundays at 8.00 pm
