Now i'm not really a big TV watcher, and gardening shows certainly aren't my usual cup of tea - but there's something about the BBC's 'Wild About Your Garden', that has impressed and kept me entertained (and not just because of beautiful wildlife expert Ellie Harrison!).

The premise of the show is to give selected gardens in Britain what the BBC describes as a "reverse makeover". This doesn't mean making a garden look nasty, but the team of Nick Knowles, Chris Beardshaw and Ellie Harrison tear-up concrete patios and decking, plant often dense foliage and put in a pond - all to encourage some of the nation's most endangered animals back into the city. The goal is not just to make a great habitat for wildlife, but also to make a relaxing place for the owners of the garden as well, and it's all done in a sort space of time.

What makes the show entertaining, is the relationships and banter between Beardshaw, Knowles and Harrison. Often there are arguments, with one of the presenters making a nasty remark into the camera at the other persons expense - it's fun to watch. Nick Knowles is generally one of those people who thinks he is incredibly funny, even though at times he isn't - yet here, I have to admit that he is on quite good form.

Wild about Your Garden is a thoroughly entertaining show, not just because of the amazing results that the team achieve in such a short time, but also because of it's humorous banter which keeps it fresh.

The show is incredibly important at a time when many houses in the UK are concreting over green areas in order to provide car parking spaces - and this programme helps (albeit in a small way) to point out that Britain doesn't have to end up looking like a concrete council estate.

Highly recommended - The best gardening series ever.
