Newest Review: ... ... it'll seem odd to be getting them now for MY grandchildren. I'm glad that they've decided to bring back the old shows on our various tv stations, and this show in particular as it was always a "nice" show, extolling the virtues of these little creatures who took rubbish that people had discarded and made useful things from it. Were they the first recyclers? Or maybe, originally, the idea was to discourage childrne from becoming litter bugs? Who knows? All I know is that I spent ages watching the Wombles when I was little and loved them dearly, and now my grandchildren can do the same. Today's kids may be a lot more sophistic... more

Underground, overground, wombling free - it's good to see Wombles are back on tv. A chance for another generation to get to know those furry little recyclers. Gosh, I had a Great Uncle Bulgaria way back then ... it'll seem odd to be getting them now for MY grandchildren. Premium Review The Wombles of Wimbledon Common are they! (288 words)

The Wombles is an animated but not cartoon TV series made famous by its theme tune and by the connection it had with children as it was aired on our TVs. As a child, I thoroughly enjoyed watching it, and it also taught me to not litter. The Wombles are rodent-like furry creatures in humanoid form that roam Wimbledon Common and pick up pieces of litter, using them to make things for themselves. The educational side of it is very clever, firstly teaching us that we shouldn't litter, but also showing us that although we may regard something as rubbish, it can be used to make something else, or as a practical thing. It makes use of the saying 'One man's rubbish is ...  Read the complete review

Wombles, The: Cholet you remember (293 words)

Before I start reliving my childhood by remembering the good old days of the Wombles I would like to make a complaint. The show was revamped recently for todays children and some new characters were added. My understanding from an early age was that the Wombles had been all named by Great Uncle Bulgaria after places on his map, so could someone please tell me whereabouts McWomble is. Anyway, time for the old memories to come flooding back. The Wombles were a race of rodent size creatures who roamed around Wimbledon Common picking up the rubbish that people had left behind, a simple concept. This show was made special by the character of each ...  Read the complete review

“Wombles of Wimbledon Common are we”, well, they’re also wombling on the internet these days, actually, their official site being: http://www.wombles.tv/pages/fmain.htm Remember that the Wombles, back in 1975 were way before their time – they recycled everything and made good use of the things that they found. Take a leaf out of the furry friends book folks and recycle! Anyway, back to the plot…. Apparently, in the old series (which folks of our generation will remember more clearly), there were a grand total of 60 episodes! This website gives an all-too brief synopsis of each episode to bring back those fond ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Wombles, The: Pick Up that Litter (183 words)

The WOmbles was made for "nice kids". it was the animated equivalent of Blue Peter. Nobody I knew as a child would admit to liking it. Strange how things change. We're in the middle of a Womble Frenzy as twenty-somethings collect the MacDonalds' toys and the Beanie Babies and gobble up the video releases. Yes, they're back. The nice thing about the Wombles was that they each had their own personality. The short animated features were high quality with a good clear storyline. Bernard Cribbins skill in the different voices should also be given credit for creating superior kids television. I didn't even like the ...  Read the complete review
