Advantages: loveable characters, beautiful music, cheerful songs
Disadvantages: honestly.....none!
I have a 3 year old daughter and a 10 month old son. My daughter is obsessed with Nick Jr (or Mick jr as she cutely calls it!) and Wonder Pets is on this channel.
While Lazytown, Dora, Diego and Superwhy are also popular choices, Wonderpets wins hands down. She sings her little heart out to the songs and gets really involved with the stories. Then she relays all this info back to me! s
The Wonder Pets live in a school classroom. Theres Tuck the Turtle, Ming Ming the duck and Linny the guinea pig, who introduce themselves by singing (altogether now!) "Linny, Tuck and Ming Ming too! We're Wonder Pets and we'll help you!"
'The Phone! The phone is ringing'
At the beginning of each show, it shows the pupils leaving the school classroom. Then the phone (a pencil pot!!) starts ringing and then commences the mini opera that is the adventures of the Wonder Pets! Unlike an opera though, wonder pets, you will be pleased to hear does not end in tragedy! The wonder pets dash to answer the phone by escaping out of their cages with Linny as their leader. They then set about working out which animal is in trouble.
'This is Serious!'
They assess the severity of the animal's plight by singing ' This is serious!' They then jump into a dressing up box, dress as super heroes (Linny in a baseball cap and cape, Tuck in a sailors hat, cape and trainers and Ming Ming dresses in a pilots helmet and goggles!). Then its off to rescue the animal, which is different on each show. As well as the usual animals of dolphins, penguins and baby birds, they rescue dragons, unicorns and other fantasy creatures!
'Whats going to work? TEAMWORK!'
Teamwork is the overall theme of this show. It shows children that although they are small, when they work together and help each other, they can overcome anything!
All the animals the Wonder Pets go to rescue, are saved you will be relieved to hear!
This programme is lovely for preschoolers. The animation is fantastic, using pictures of real animals being manipulated to move in the correct manner. My daughter loves it because when she sees a guinea pig in a pet shop she instantly recognises it as Linny. I think the mixture of real pictures and animation helps the children to engage with the programme and its lovely for them to watch.
I cant see why an pre school child would not like this programme. The Music is beautifully performed and the words usually easy for them to understand what is going on. The Mixture of music and speaking enables them to engage with the programme which in turn could help their vocabulary and understanding.
Summary: Ideal for preschoolers but i bet parents will love it too!
