Advantages: Better than Jeremy Kyle

Disadvantages: Speak your brains opinions form panel members

Welcome to maternity leave - welcome to The Wright stuff! Since having a baby in March I have found this programme becoming my talking wallpaper every morning while my little boy has his morning nap and I tap away on the laptop. It can be found on Channel 5 between 9 - 10.30, weekdays only.

Very quickly you find the novelty of watching Jeremy Kyle shout at people grating and look for an alternative. In steps The Wright Stuff. Hosted by Matthew Wright (43, single as you find out when you listen to him), he must be the man in Britain who knows the most about womens issues as he talks about at least one a day to appeal to his audience of mums.

He is joined by a studio audience (who they only talk to when they get desparate for an opinion) adn three guests. Two guests are regular fixtures for the week and common ones include Ed Vaizey, Anne Diamond, Craig Refvel Horwood, Anton du Beke, Gayle Proter and Lowri turner. They also have a speical guest each day who usually has something to plug. Recently there has been Biggins, Clive James and Jason Donovan.
They start by talking about articles in the morning papers (usually the Daily Mail and The Sun) where panel members read out the story and make a comment. Then they usually have about 3 discussion topics, that usually sources from yesterdays news where each panel member is encouraged to speak their brains before the public get chance to do likewise if they ring up. Matthew Wright tries to keep it all good humoured but serious when it needs to be.
When Matthew is on holdiay they have guest presenters who include Richard Bacon, Kaye Adams and Lowri Turner.

The show finishes with a more inforative topic where the public are invited to put question to an expert. Common ones are Michael Rosen (Children's Reading), Dr Miriam Stoppard (Baby and health issues) Zita West (fertility) and Dr Christian Jessen (Embarrassing Illnesses - answer is always go to your GP!).

I find it quite intersting but all opinions must be taken with a pinch of salt. I would never dream of ringing up but many people do. Newsnight it isn't but it's better than the alternatives. I will quite miss Matthew when I go back to work after Christmas but it must be time to get a life!

Summary: Morning opinion show hosted by Matthew Wright

Funny cause as I read this I have the show on. I really enjoy it and find the humour funny. I do have a couple of bug bears though - Matthew is a little rude and condescending towards some of the callers and frankly I cant stand Kay Adams (Whom is presenting it as I speak).

Other than that its a good way to keep up with the news and gossip.

What a great commentator/analyst of topical news Anton DuBeke must be.
