Advantages: Looks to have some good matches
Disadvantages: HHH won't be there (I don't think..)
For those of you who follow wrestling you will understand everything I mention in this opinion, however for the readers who are not into sports entertainment I will have to give you some background information. Tonight, Sunday 21st October between 1 AM and 4 AM UK time, so I guess you could say it is on Monday, there is a pay-per-view WWF wrestling event called No Mercy. Despite the fact that it is called a Pay-Per-View, and the fact that Americans have to pay to watch it, No Mercy can be seen for free on Sky Sports 1. There will also be an encore presentation on Sky Sports 1 later in the week. The show will be introduced and covered by the two leading commentators, Jim Ross and Paul Heyman, who are not the most irritating commentators and can have some funny confrontations. These monthly pay-per-views include all of the big matches, mostly with championships on the line, and they include the matches that are the result of feuds that have been building up over the past few weeks. All of the storylines build up to these Pay-Per-View events, and it is here where you are likely to see the most title changes. Now I will describe the feuds leading up to tonight’s matches, and my theories as to what will happen in each match. I am going to start off with the brother versus brother match. EDGE VS CHRISTIAN (LADDER MATCH for INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE) The feud – At least on camera, these two Canadians are brothers, and they have been a very successful tag team in the World Wrestling Federation, winning the Tag Team Titles on numerous occasions. Recently Edge has won numerous singles titles in his blooming career, including the King of the Ring and the Intercontinental title. This led to Christian becoming extremely jealous of his brother, to the point where he brutally attacked Edge violently with a steel chair. After that Edge and Christian had a match at the last Pay Per View, in which Christian cheated to win the
Intercontinental Title. Christian has since completely turned his back not only on his brother, but on the WWF, as he joined the WWF’s enemy the alliance, which consists of WCW and ECW wrestlers. Christian has also used a false statement about Edge’s mother being in hospital to lure Edge into a trap, in which several wrestlers beat up Edge. The match – The ladder match involves the title belt hanging above the ring, as the two wrestlers try to climb a ladder and grab the belt for the win, however the ladders can also be used as weapons. Also expect to see chairs and tables being used for extra damage. Edge and Christian are no strangers to ladders, they have won two of the three famous TLC (Tables, Ladders, Chairs) matches as well as several massive ladder matches, each time putting their bodies on the line and performing amazing high-flying moves, such as Edge flying off the top of a ladder to land a spear (like a rugby tackle) on Jeff Hardy in a recent TLC match. Therefore, expect this to be one of the most brutal, yet one of the most exciting and entertaining matches on tonight’s card, when these two guys are put in a ring with ladders, you always expect something special. Seeing as Edge lost the last big match between these two, I could say that I expect the good guy (Edge) to come out on top here, however seeing as Edge has had a lot of success this year I think maybe Christian will be given his turn for success, which means that I suspect Christian will find a way of retaining his intercontinental title, most likely through an interference by an Alliance Wrestler. Final Prediction – A win for Christian, thanks to help from an alliance member, perhaps William Regal. THE HURRICANE & LANCE STORM vs HARDY BOYZ (WCW TAG TEAM TITLES) The feud – This hasn’t had much of a build up really. There was a recent match in which The Hardy brothers teamed up with Matt Hardy’s gi
rlfriend Lita to take on Hurricane, Lance Storm and Mighty Molly, and in that match Ivory helped the bad guys (Hurricane, Storm and Molly) to win. For those of you who don’t know, The Hurricane and his valet Mighty Molly think they are superheroes, with hilarious results. They ride around in the “Hurricycle” and wear capes. They also show no fear of anyone, but usually end up getting beat up. Just after the match mentioned above, after Hurricane’s team had sneaked a victory, the Acolytes were shown stealing the Hurricylcle and heading to No Mercy. The match – With titles on the line, this should be an entertaining match as the Hardy Boyz are big risk takers, demonstrated by Jeff Hardy’s finisher, the Swanton Bomb in which he flips in the air and hits the opponent with his neck. The Hardys will have Lita at ringside, and expect to see some entertaining high-flying moves from her also, when the referee isn’t looking. Hurricane will be hilarious as usual, as will Mighy Molly at ringside, and I expect to see Ivory at ringside also supporting the Hurricane’s team. I would say that The Hurricane and Lance Storm would win the titles as they have two women at ringside instead of one, but there are several factors that lead me to suggest that the Hardy Boyz will win. Firstly, Lita could probably bet up Mighty Molly and Ivory on her own anyway at ringside. Secondly, the Hardys haven’t had these titles for very long at all so I expect them to hold onto the belts. Thirdly, the Acolytes will surely get involved after they stole the Hurricycle, so I expect them to help the Hardys win. Final prediction – The Hardy Boyz retain their titles, maybe with help from the Acolytes. BIG SHOW & TAJIRI vs DUDLEY BOYZ (WWF TAG TEAM TITLES) The feud – This really came down to two events. the first was when the Dudley Boyz, encouraged by Stacy Keibler, put Tajiri’s girlfrien
d Torrie Wilson through a table recently. This enraged Tajiri and he wants a piece of the Dudleys. the Dudleys also put their little brother Spike, Big Show’s tag team partner, through a table recently, enraging the Big Show. Therefore, Tajiri and Big Show have teamed up to get revenge and win some titles at the same time. The match – This match I believe will mostly involve the Dudley Boyz beating up the lightweight Tajiri without letting Big Show get into the ring, however as always I expect Tajiri to fight back with some entertaining, high-flying moves and tag in the Big Show, who will dominate the Dudley Boyz and will at least nearly get the victory. I think Torrie Wilson may be at ringside, if she’s not preparing for her match later tonight. Also Spike Dudley could return to attack his brothers, but I can’t see Tajiri and Show winning this one as they are not a real tag team, and the Dudleys always seem to find a way to screw their opponents and hold onto their titles. Final prediction – The Dudley Boyz retain their titles. STACY KIEBLER vs TORRIIE WILSON (LNGERIE MATCH) The feud – Formerly good friends and members of the alliance, after Torrie got together with Tajiri, Stacy was unimpressed and the feud began there with Stacy finding a man who she said could beta Tajiri. We have since seen the pair of bodacious blondes attack each other and have a bikini contest, which incidentally was won by Torrie. The match – This is the first ever lingerie match, however we have seen similar things and the result is a non-serious, entertaining match that male fans will love. I don’t know the exact rules but I know it’ll involve these women in lingerie, which can’t be bad. I fully expect Torrie Wilson to win as she is very popular and she has been put through a table, so she will be determined to get revenge. Final prediction – an entertaining match
won by Torrie Wilson. TEST vs KANE The feud - Test’s tag team partner, Booker T, is feuding with the Undertaker, so Test challenged Kane to this match. The match - Kane is very large and strong and will usually physically dominate people, however Test is also very tough and this will therefore be a very physical matchup. The last big match between the two resulted in Test along with Booker T winning the tag titles from the Undertaker and Kane, so I think perhaps Kane should win this one. Boker T may interfere, but if he does the Undertaker is sure to sort him out, so I will go with Kane on this one. Final prediction – a win for Kane UNDERTAKER vs BOOKER T The feud – This started when Booker T and Test upset Kane and Undertaker for the tag team titles, and the feud has been building up to this match in which, with no interference or cheating, Booker T looks set to get his ass kicked y the Undertaker. Booker T recently teamed up with Stone Cold against Kurt Angle and the Undertaker, and near the end of the match the Undertaker led Booker out through the crowd, with Taker beating Booker T up. The match – Another physical match, expect Booker T to try to cheat at every chance, and expect Undertaker to kick his ass if there is no interference. However, I smell a rat, and as Undertaker won the build-up perhaps through help from Shane McMahon and Test, Booker T could sneak a victory here. Final Prediction – a win for Booker T through cheating. CHRIS JERICHO vs THE ROCK (WCW TITLE) The feud – these two extremely popular WWF wrestlers began feuding when The Rock was hit with a chair through a mistake by Y2J Chris Jericho. Then Y2J own a match that qualified him for a title shot against the Rock. Since tehn we have seen the Rock Rock Bottom Y2J twice, and Jericho has hit The Rock with a chair and insulted him by attacking Rock with his own fi
nisher, the People’s Elbow. The match – I have great fears about this match as I fully expect to see one of my two favourite wrestlers turn into a heel (bad guy) as I can’t see either of them losing it fair and square. Everyone has been saying Y2J can’t win the big one, he has never won the WCW or WWF title, after all of this build-up I think he has to finally capture a major title tonight, at the expense of The Rock. Bu Rock won’t be easy to beat, so I’m sorry to say I think Y2J will get some help from an alliance member and then join the alliance, or perhaps just cheat with a weapon of some sort, but The Rock can kick out after being hit with weapons. The reason I think it will be Y2J who turns into a heel is that a) The Rock is too popular to become a heel…ever. And also, Jericho has recently been acting less like a bad guy, trying to hit a woman (Stephanie) with a chair, and also losing the fans against a supposed bad guy member of the alliance RVD. Final prediction – Unfortunately I think Y2J will become a bad guy, and therefore win this match through cheating. STONE COLD vs RVD vs KURT ANGLE (TRIPLE THREAT for the WWF TITLE) The feud – This began when Kurt Angle wanted to win the WWF Title from Stone Cold a few months ago. After Stonce Cold dumped Angle’s olympic gold medals in a river (Angle really won two olympic gold medals at the 1996 olympics, but obviously the medals thrown into the river were fakes), Angle was angered and the two had a big title match at a Pay Per View. Austin got himself DQ’ed on purpose because he couldn’t beat Angle even after three Stunners (Austin’s finisher), and at a rematch at the next PPV in Angle’s hometown Angle finally won the title and celebrated with his family. To everyone’s mass surprise, a few weeks later on Raw Austin won the title back with a screw job by William Regal, the first time I hav
e ever known a major title to change hands not at a Pay Per View. Since then the storylines haven’t concentrated on Kurt Angle so much, instead on RVD. RVD is a member of the alliance, which is led by Stone Cold, but RVD is becoming very popular and challenging Stone Cold’s (Stone Cold – the most hated man in wrestling at the moment) authority. RVD has impressed all fans with his high-flying moves and Stone Cold seems scared of him, trying to avoid this match. Just recently RVD was talking to WWF owner Vince McMahon which suggests RVD, popular with fans, may join the WWF. The match - This match, the main event, should be quite an entertaining one with some impressive unorthodox moves from Rob Van Dam. I think as Angle hasn’t been involved much in storylines that he won’t win this one, although they may have held him back so he can get a surprise win tonight, after all he can kick out after the Stunner. RVD may join the WWF and be helped by Vince McMahon, which makes me think Rob Van Dam could win this one especially as he’s been focused on in recent storylines so much. But this is RVD’s first WWF title shot and it usually takes lots of attempts before someone wins this coveted prize. This leads me to think that somehow, with all alliance member rooting for him and willing to interfere to help him, that Stone Cold could cheat and pull off a victory here. I hope not as he has had the title for ages (except losing it for about 1 week to Kurt Angle), but he always finds a way to keep his title in a cowardly manner. Final prediction – Stone Cold will cheat to win, but expect RVD to maybe be helped by Vince McMahon, or join the WWF. Well, that’s all folks, despite what this text may suggest I do not think wrestling is real (duh), but I still enjoy it and these predictions will probably demonstrate that. I’ll post an update later this week to say how many I got right. Thanks
