Advantages: Insane storylines.
Disadvantages: Not as it used to be
Now known as WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) it has graced our TV's for the last couple of decades now.
I have been watching this show since it first aired showcasing such stars as Hulk Hogan, Machoman Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior etc. The show was the first time the WWE actaully had a weekly tv spot that could run week in week out building up story lines and feuds on live tv.
This show was and still is the number one show in World Wrestling Entertainment and is home to many of the top established stars such as John Cena, Batista, Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho.
The show hit new heights during the attitude era when myself and many others would tune in on a friday night at 10pm uk time to watch Stone Cold Steve Austin raise hell left right and centre. The shows success was based on one the greatest rivalrys there was and ever will be in that of Stone Cold Steve Austin and Vince Mcmahon. These 2 guys put butts in the seats and made millions tune in every week to watch the show. At the time this rivalry was going on there was no one that could even come close to matching the heat these guys got with the exception of maybe The Rock and The Undertaker.
Unlike now the attitude era made Raw the greatest show to watch on TV. Back then they didn't just use it to hype feuds and title matches for the upcoming ppv's because if you tuned it for Raw then almost every time you were in for a surprise. Title changes on Raw are a thing of the past these days but back then you got to witness stuff like Vince Mcmahon becoming the WWE champion and Stone Cold getting thrown off bridges.
Vince Mcmahon aside the shows leading stars were Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. These 2 guys had it all. They cut a promo like a hot knife could cut through butter. The fans would hang on their every word and they are the guys that everyone wanted to see.
The heights that these 2 reached was unreal and to this day if you asked any WWE Fan over the past 10 years which 2 superstars have been the most popular than these 2 guys would be at the top.
During the boom period in wrestling WWE was at War with rival wrestling company WCW. This was every fans dream as you had 2 shows producing great wrestling and story lines that you were spoilt for choice on what to watch. I remember I would watch WCW on TNT at 9pm then switch over to Raw at 10pm but keep flicking back during the adverts incase I was missing anything.
Raw took a heavy beating during this war and had it not have been for its top stars and loyal fan base things could have well turned out for the worse however in the end it was the WWE and Raw that prevailed the winners in the end.
To this day Raw still continues to be the number one show in the WWE and with rising stars such as CM Punk and Jeff Hardy the potential for the future is very good. However where Superstars like Stone Cold, The Rock, Triple H, the Undertaker and Shawn Michaels have all become icons with the show there is many many more that have failed.
At the end of the day when the fans tune into see Raw its them that decide who will make it big in the company regardless off how the company push them or make them look. Without the fans the WWE and Raw would not be running.
So to sum it up for all the old school Raw fans. "If your not down with that I just got two words for ya"........
Summary: No Stone Colds or The Rocks there is John Cena who is way over popular.
