The X Files is a Sci-Fi drama that ran for 9 series & two movies. The first episode was aired in September 1993 & the last episode was broadcast in May 2002. I has got a cult following & many of it's slogans made it into 90's culture is it's themes tapped into the public Pysche. The show predominantly focuses on the investigations of FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) & his partnet Special Agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson). Fox requested the X Files & wants to validate them due to the fact his Sister was abducted when he was a child & he believes that this was by Aliens. Dana is assigned to work with him as a scientific ...  Read the complete review

First aired in 1993, the X Files was essentially a modernised version of the old 50s/60s sci-fi/horror tv show the Twilight Zone, following the exploits of two FBI agents assigned to a variety of apparently paranormal cases, with a 'monster of the week' appeal in which a different entity from either modern or ancient folklore alike would appear- ghosts, alien abductions, werewolves, dangerous 'psychics', spontaneous human combustion, faith healers, no stone was left unturned in the show's quest to explore the wierd the wonderful phenomena that have always existed in the imaginations of people down through the ages. The format is endearingly simple- every week Mulder will ...  Read the complete review

The X Files was either scintillatingly brilliant - or, it wasn't. However, that it was hugely successful is beyond doubt. It has that essentialist dimension to any programme dealing with ETs and parnormal stuff; like all things dealing with conspiracy theories, the truth (whatever that is) may well be lurking out there somewhere in mom's apple pie or under Smoking Man's dirty nicotine-stained fingernails, but cannot be finally proved or disproved no matter how long the tedium goes on for. Witness the interminable real-life furore over the Death of Diana as a case in point. Maybe they should have had Mohammed al-Fayed guesting on an episode. Anyway, ...  Read the complete review

When 'The X-Files' began in 1993, it was critically and publicly acclaimed as being one of the most original and well-written series on television. The paranormal investigations of F.B.I. Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully captivated imaginations worldwide. Now in its' seventh season in America, the show has declined little in quality, but greatly in popularity. The first season of 'The X-Files' was comprised of individual, stand-alone episodes with plots and storylines separate from each. This began to change with episode 20, 'Tooms (Squeeze 2)' which followed up a story begun earlier in the year. After this, the writers began to sow the seeds of a larger ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The X-Files: The truth is out there! (314 words)

WHAT IS IT ABOUT: This sci-fi series from the US focuses on two FBI agents who work the X Files: cases related to the paranormal. Whilst Fox Mulder is very pro alien, Dana Scully is the voice of reason, giving a scientific approach to unexplained phenomenon. The show ran from 1993 to 2002. WAS IT ANY GOOD: The thing about the X Files is it had (and still has as I have found from re-watching a few episodes) a very scary element to it. Episodes varied, but some were as scary as any horror film I've ever seen. The stories occasionally drifted from alien territory to spirituality and devil worship, which just scared the crap out of me. So, if you like ...  Read the complete review
