Be a spoilt brat for 20 years then get rewarded with a round the world trip (Young Dumb and Living off Mum)

Advantages: Compelling Viewing Disadvantages: Concept of the programme and prize at the end, Young Dumb and Living off Mum is about a group of young people who have been spoilt all their lives and this is there chance to show their parents what they can do. The age range was from 17-25, with none of them being able to hold down a job for more than 5 minutes, with the eldest contestent being 25 having numerous amounts of jobs but not being able to hold one down. Inevitably she has now been kicked off the show. The way it works is that they all live in a house together and have a budget to live off, then they get set different tasks and depending how they do in these there parents watch them and then they all choose who is to be evicted from the house. The tasks so far have included, working at a farm, running their own market stall and teachin a class of 9/10 year olds for the day. The most riduculous thing about this programme is the prize which the 'winner' gets. They win a round the world trip!! What strikes me is that they are gettin an amazing prize for being spoilt their whole lives and I cannot see how this prize is going to help them stoop being spolit?? They are being more spoilt with this prize, they have had 20 or so years of being spoilt and being given everything they want, so how is 4 weeks of doing a few tasks going to help them in the real world, and being awarded a prize at the end of it. In my opinion none of the contestants deserve to win, the prize should go to a young member of the public who has actually earnt it. Young people get given a bad name for being lazy, this show is just adhering to that point, where are the shows that show young people, holding down jobs, going to univeristy, working hard, looking after their families all at the same time? It is these people who should be rewarded and not spoilt brats. As you can see I do not agree with the concept of the show, but it is compelling viewing. It would be nice to see them actually have changed at the end of it, but somehow I cant really see that happening, only time will tell I guess. I would like the show a lot more if they werent awarded a prize at the end of it. If this is setting an example to younger viewers then it is a very bad one, 'be lazy and spoilt for 20 years then get rewarded with a round the world trip'. Morals and values need to be demonstrated to children so that they do not end up like this, and that they learn the value of money, and the meaning of hard work. Come on BBC3 let's see young people in a good light for a change! Summary: Would rather see hard working young people getting rewarded not spoilt brats! |
