Advantages: Nice, easy viewing on a Saturday evening

First broadcast in 1990, You've Been Framed managed to harness a new style of programming with a new invention that has just been introduced...the camcorder. Now, the series has become a staple diet of ITVs schedules. Watch out for Xmas specials, celeb specials and Easter specials.

The basic format of the show remains unchanged. Funny clips of people doing daft things. That's the beauty of it, but also the annoying thing about it. The show is so samey, and you are often forgiven for thinking you have seen the same clip a dozen times before. The truth is, you probably have. Clever producers will slip in an old clip from an old YBF, and repackage the show as "New". It isn't. Same old clips repackaged together with new voiceover and music. I'm not fooled.

The one saving grace of YBF has to be Harry Hill, who adds a new dimension to the programme like no other presenter. Beadle, Wilkes and the fat one from Emmerdale can all leave the building - Hill not only manages to be amusing but also uncannily accurate about the utter droleness of some clips.

All in all, it lacks the originality that made the show so popular, but it still draws massive ratings. Its easy, no-nonsense viewing which really does not require much brain power.
