ER: Emergency Room - The Complete Season 2 (DVD)
(Also reviewed: Season 1 DVD - see previous review)
ER began back in 1994 with a twenty five episode season hit which sparked the second season to come out in September 1995. This second season has twenty two episodes.
I have to admit that I did not ... watch ER from the start and only got into it around the season six mark, though recently I have started to purchase the series box-sets right from the start. As ER has been out a long time, I was able to find the complete DVD boxset for this second season for only £5.49 in my local discount DVD store which is a great bargain (And only 49 pence more than I found the first season there for!).
So what is ER?
ER is an American drama series following a group of doctors and nurses primarily in the emergency room, dealing with day to day patients and emergencies as well as troubles and strife's in their own lives.
The second season begins a while after the first season ends with some significant changes. Mark Greene is promoted to an attending after his divorce comes through, with some funny moments seen with him starting to date once again, as well as coming to blows more than once with close friend Dr. Ross who makes some questionable choices this season. Dr Ross, though, despite his choices, manages to impress those who matter with an award winning episode mid way through the season. Susan's sister leaves her with the baby and we see her struggle to come to terms with raising a baby and working at the busy hospital, and not everything works out to plan. Dr. Carter is now in his fourth year as a medical student and attempts to win the surgical intern position with yet some more hilarious moments. Jeanie Boulet and Benton become close, yet not everything is peachy both in their relationship and their separate lives.
Obviously, this is not everything that happens in season two though I do not want to give away too much. I will say, though, that it is not hard to see why ER was such a great hit! Season two continues strongly with yet more graphical scenes which make Casualty and Holby City look incredibly tame in comparison, some great comical moments mainly centred upon poor old Carter, strong storylines and amazing characters.
"Hell and High Water" episode was certainly the best of the lot, though the others were just as great in other ways. This particular episode won awards and had the highest amount of viewers so far. Clooneys performance in this shows just why his acting career took off to great height.
.
Main cast list:
(Obviously there are a load more actors in this series, though these are the main ones to look out for)
* Anthony Edwards as Dr. Mark Greene - Attending Physician
* George Clooney as Dr. Doug Ross - Pediatric Fellow
* Sherry Stringfield as Dr. Susan Lewis - Third Year Resident
* Noah Wyle as John Carter - Fourth Year Medical Student
* Julianna Margulies as Nurse Carol Hathaway - Nurse Manager
* Gloria Reuben as Jeanie Boulet - Physician Assistant
* Eriq La Salle as Dr. Peter Benton - Third Year Surgical Resident
If you are a fan of ER then this second season is a must. In comparison to the first season,I can safely say that it is going from strength to strength. If you have never seen ER then £5.49 for this complete second season DVD boxset is a perfect way to start, though if you are very squeamish over the sight of blood then maybe it isn't for you!
DVD average prices range from £5.49 up to £10.00

ER: Emergency Room - The Complete Season 1 (DVD)
ER began back in 1994 with twenty five episodes to its first season, each being 45 minutes long (with the two hour pilot episode). I have to admit that I did not watch ER from the start and only got into it around the season six mark, though recently I have started to ... purchase the series boxsets right from the start. As ER has been out a long time, I was able to find the complete DVD boxset for this first season for only £5.00 in my local discount DVD store which is a great bargain!
So what is ER?
ER is an American drama series following a group of doctors and nurses primarily in the emergency room, dealing with day to day patients and emergencies as well as troubles and strife's in their own lives.
We begin to meet the main characters very early on, though it was only due to my later season knowledge that I took to each specific character straight away. I find that at the beginning, it does take a while to explore the different characters and get to know them, and even then, a lot we do not find out until later seasons though this keeps us in suspense for longer which is a good thing. The main cast in this first season consists of some great characters including Mark Greene who is a chief resident at this point, and the very opening character to the series who is considering a move to a private practise at the request of his wife, though things do not turn out for the best with his marriage and luckily for us, Greene stays! Pediatric resident Doug Ross, who is played by the brilliant George Clooney who has previously had a relationship with Carol Hathaway who deals with her own suicide attempt right at the beginning of the season. Susan Lewis is a second year resident and John Carter is a medical student who has only just begun his career at the hospital. Carter is possibly one of the most important characters in the whole of ER as he begins his career at the start of the first season and progresses all the way through until the end, changing dramatically, though that is for another review!
There are some great moments in this first season, and it is not a surprise to see why it was such a big hit. There are some very graphical medical scenes which make Holby City and Casualty look so tame, and some scenes may be a little difficult for some due to the deep subjects in which they cover brilliantly such as death, divorce, violence, mental illness and so forth.
Some favourite moments of mine include the scenes with Carter, who at this point is hilarious with his accidents, fainting at the sight of blood and so on, which sets the scene for some other funny moments mixed with the blood and gore.

* Eriq La Salle as Dr. Peter Benton - Second Year Surgical Resident
If you are a fan of ER then this first season is a must. In comparison to other seasons it might not be as strong but it is certainly brilliant. If you have never seen ER then £5.00 for this first DVD boxset is a perfect way to start, though if you are very squeamish over the sight of blood then maybe it isn't for you!

Emmerdale - The Dingles For Richer For Poorer (DVD)
by xd-o-n-z-x
Whilst I am more of a Corrie and Eastenders' fan, the rest of the household are also big Emmerdale fans, although in the past I could take it or leave it. However, the last few months or so my interest in Emmerdale has grown slightly, and lately I have found myself sitting down to watch the soap. So when I heard about this DVD, I was ... interested to see what it was all about.
Emmerdale The Dingles: Richer For Poorer is a one-off special DVD which was released in the United Kingdom in November 2010 and so is quite recent. The DVD runs at one hour and a half and is a PG which means that is is suitable for everyone to watch, providing that a parent is present with small children. You can buy the DVD from Amazon for a price of £6.99 which I think is good value for money.
The plot: The DVD stars the Dingle family. Zak and Belle are feeling the pinch and so head off to buy a Eurobillions lottery ticket, as it is a rollover weekend. We then fastforward to see two outcomes of the story, where they win the lottery and one where they don't. Will they win it or not? Watch this DVD to find out!
If I had to pick one favourite thing about Emmerdale (even from when I wasn't really much of a fan), I would always say the Dingle family; to me they were the best bit, particularly Zak, Lisa and their daughter Belle. So, I was happy that the DVD focused on my favourite characters.
I like the fact that the Dingles are quite a traditional and old-fashioned family, and so I think that they are a great family. As unique as they are, I think that there is something in the Dingle family that every family can relate to; they are all about family and looking out for eachother. I think that this is a great DVD to watch with all the family, especially as it is suitable for persons of all ages.
I thought that the plot was really interesting, especially as it was relating the fact that the Dingles were feeling the pinch, just like the rest of the nation during the credit crunch. I was really hoping that the Dingles would win the lottery, although we don't know, as it was more about looking into the future to see how winning the lottery would affect them.
I found this DVD to be really funny! I really like the Dingles' sense of humour, and so if you do too, then you will find this funny. It's a highly entertaining show!
I really enjoyed this DVD, and think that if you like the Dingles, then you will like this. I did think that at first it was a bit confusing because it was going back and forwards, although after a while I got used to it, and ended up really enjoying this DVD.
I would definitely recommend this DVD to all Emmerdale fans.
Thanks for reading!
