Fans will like it - it was ok, but not as good as the others!

~* Another review which I wrote around Christmas time, which for some reason I didn't put up at the time of writing! *~

I have been a fan of the ITV series Benidorm for quite a while now. I love it so much that I would consider it as one of my favourite shows.

For those of you who don't know, Benidorm is a British television comedy drama programme which is broadcast on ITV1. The show stars Steve Pemberton and Siobhan Finneran. You can buy this DVD special from play.com for £8.99 which I think is quite expensive for one fifty minute episode. The DVD is a 15 which means that it must not be watched by persons under the age of fifteen.

The show has recently aired its fourth series, although there have been two specials (the wedding and a Christmas special). Benidorm follows a group of holiday makers in Spain. The same characters are always on holiday.
Today I will be reviewing the Benidorm 2010 Christmas special, which aired on Boxing Day 2010.

Plot: The Garveys go and visit Janice Garvey's mother, who is married to millionnaire Mel. It's Christmas Day and the family have gone to visit the couple at their villa in Spain, although Mel is nowhere in sight. Will he make it home in time for Christmas dinner? Donald and Jaqueline are on holiday with members of their swingers group? How do they know Cilla Black? Watch Benidorm: Christmas special to find out!

I sat down on Christmas Night, looking forward to watching one of my favourite shows. I was looking forward to the usual high-quality entertainment and endless laughs, although I was really disappointed, we all were as a family, as this was nothing compared to the usual Benidorm we all know and love.

My favourite characters in Benidorm is the Garvey family; consisting of Dad Mick, Mum Janice, and nine year old son Michael (his sister Chantelle, used to be in too, but she's left now), as well as Janice elderly (and sun worshipper) Madge, and her millionnaire husband Mel. I always thought that the show should be all about this family, and having seen this special, where it was all about this family, I was really disappointed, as I do not feel that they were given a strong enough plot.

It's Christmas in Benidorm, and rather than stay at their usual hotel, the family head off to Madge and Mel's mansion to stay, and this is where their story takes place. Although, it was nice seeing the mansion, I would have preferred if they had stayed in the hotel, as then it would have made a change as the hotel would be all 'Christmassy' for a change.

Cilla Black fans will be pleased to know that the lady herself does make an appearance in this special. There was one part of the show where the Garvey's turned up at Cilla's thinking it was Madge's place, and Michael was in the pool, and they had to tell him to get out because they were in the wrong house; so funny!

If I am honest, I didn't like the fact that Cilla Black, as well as Su Pollard and Louis Spence were in this show, as to me, the show is very believeable. The acting is so convincing that I genuinely believe that they are real characters. Although when you add three well known stars to the show, I think about them in their real lives, and so this time round, I couldn't find the show to be as believable as I usually do.

I think that the characters in this show are fantastic, I just thought that it was the plot and setting that let it down. I would have thought that been at the hotel having Christmas lunch, would have been much better than in the mansion in the middle of nowhere, I did really like the views from the house though; I thought they were fantastic.

I thought that it was really sad that the actor who played Mel, Geoffrey Hutchings died. Although he was never my favourite character in Benidorm,he was really missed in this special, and I thought it was really sad that we would not see Mel again.

If you like Benidorm then you will like this. I just didn't like it as much as the series's. Now that series four is currently showing on the television, I am glad that Benidorm is back to its usual good old self.

      Thanks for reading!
