Advantages: Some great new characters, lots of great lines
Disadvantages: None
The show Benidorm might be as common as muck and I can't say I've ever been there on holiday nor does it appeal but I do love the comedy series. The 1st and 2nd series were great but I found that the 3rd to be a little wayward, they attempted 1 hour long episodes and the storylines became not only far-fetched but also a little bit varied.
The story lines evolve in a similar way in the 4th series, rather than just being a simple 2 week holiday in the sun, residents are involved and some holiday makers turn in to residents, episodes are cut down to 45 minutes and the script is back to its best.
Jeff (Johnny Vegas) is replaced by his bitter sister who appears to be a miserable old trout until the 'real' her comes out and proves to be one of the stars of the series. I thought the loss of Jeff would have a great effect and might even be the end of the series but this series sees the strongest cast for some time - familiar favourites Jacqueline and Donald and The Garveys are joined by Gavin and his extremely camp employee Kenneth.
Neil Fitzmaurice plays the role of a odd-job man and hanger on, Cilla Black and Sue Pollard make cameo appearances, the glamorous Katherine Drysdale is back in the role of Natalie and she's accompanied by her fat, grouchy friend Sam and pestered by the daft Liam (Adam Gillen) who has a slight George Formbyness about his lines and overall persona!
There are 6 great episodes and I'm now really looking forward to the 5th series, to be honest I thought the show had run its course by the end of the 3rd series but this has been the funniest of the series so far.
Summary: Still more complex story lines than the 1st and 2nd series but lots of good jokes
