This Review is about season one of Curb. For an over view of the series in general please read my review under 'Curb Your Enthusiasm'
The second season of the fantastic Curb Your Enthusiasm is a great entry to the surreal and sweary world of the fictional Larry David. The season features ten episodes and was released in 2001 each episode lasts for 30 minutes.
1 - The Car Salesman - Cheryl gets on Larry's back for slobbing about the place and just eating potato chips, so Larry decides to become a car salesman much to her surprise. This episode also features Seinfelds George (Jason Alexander), as he and Larry discuss the possibility of creating a new sitcom starring Jason. Being Curb neither strand plans out for Larry. It's a very strong start to the second season.
2 - Thor - the second episode revolves around Larry repeatedly bumping into Thor (a wrestler) who he believes slashed his tires, while unsuccessfully planning to get revenge (why does he bother?), elsewhere Larry and Jason 'try' to meet up to chat about the sitcom, Larry annoyed that he has to keep travelling to Jason. Another great episode with the fantastic Jason Alexander.
3 - Trick or Treat - Larry's house gets TP'd (toilet papered) and he suspects a teenage girl whom he didn't give any candy too (as she was too old and not in costume) a very funny episode as Larry rages against baldness discrimination and societies little foibles.
4 - The Shrimp Incident - This episode features Elaine from Seinfeld (Julia Louis-Deryfus) who Larry has taken the sitcom idea too. It's great to see her always and she has some good scenes. Elsewhere Larry believes an NBC executive stole some of his shrimp. Surely that won't scupper the deal would it?? A strong episode.
5 - The Thong - Larry spots his therapist in a thong whilst at the beach and decides to never use him again. Larry is also 'persuaded' begrudgingly to appear for a charity auction. Larry pi**es off the winner when at the meal he starts his meal before the winners has even arrived. I love the restaurant scene with Larry, as he usually is, being in the right but society and convention making him be in the wrong. Poor guy.
6 - The Acupuncturist - Larry tells his acupuncturist he will give him 5 grand if he can cure his neck problem. Larry also lends an acquaintance 5k on the promise he'll be paid back when the mans father dies. Larry puts his foot in it and the man gets cut out of the will.
7 - The Doll - a great episode in which Larry and Jeff destroy two dolls. Larry first off by cutting the hair on one and then they rip the head off Jeff's daughter exact replica doll so they can replace the first one. Things do not end well. With one scene featuring Larry in a toilet with a young girl as she accidentally feels a hard thing in his pants (the dolls head) a very funny episode.
8 - Shaq - this episode features Shaquille O'Neal (a very famous basketball player), and has Larry accidentally tripping him from the touch line. Larry becomes a hate figure for hurting the chances of the LA Lakers from winning the cup?? Or season perhaps, I can't quite remember, but Larry messes up. Luckily Shaq is a huge fan of Seinfeld and Larry takes the whole 170 plus episodes to Shaq. It's a very good episode with a funny ending featuring a cheating coach playing a Pictionary type game. Go Larry.
9 - The Baptism - in this episode Larry and Richard Lewis are at loggerheads as Richard believes Larry stole his answering machine message. It's a funny episode but quite slight on plot.
10 - The Massage - a great end to the second season. Larry tries to build bridges with the TV executives to get his project up and running. Things soon start to unravel as Larry is caught stealing cutlery form a fancy restaurant (for noble reasons) and must wear a sign informing everyone he steals things, while wearing the sign some executives from the network walk by. Oh well c'est la vie.
A great second season. Go buy it.
