Dad's Army The Complete Third Series was produced and directed by David Croft. The episodes in this series were originally transmitted between 11/09/69 and 11/12/69. This DVD contains all fourteen episodes spread over two disks. Some special features are included, in the form of an interesting interview with Arnold Ridley, and a Photo Gallery.

The shows followed the Walmington-On-Sea Home Guard (founded and commanded by Captain Mainwaring). The small band of men, which include an undertaker, a butcher, a bank manager, and a conscientious objector, act as the front line of defence in their town against an enemy invasion. But above all else Dad's Army was a comedy, so the men often find themselves in self inflicted (but humorous) situations.

The third season represents Dad's Army really staring to find itself. All of the actors seem more comfortable and more natural in their roles when compared to the previous two seasons. They offer constant, and fantastic realistic acting, with their brilliant characters really starting to develop.

There were a few great episodes in this season. "Something Nasty In The Vault" and "Room At The Bottom" come to mind.

Overall picture and sound quality is excellent. The sixth episode is in black and white, it's only surviving form. All other's in this series are in colour.

As I've mentioned in my other reviews of Dad's Army, the show is considered to be one of the greatest British Comedies of all time, and even in it's early days, Dad's Army still inspired and entertained. It's stood the test of time, and still has showings on TV, and a large fan base.

Below is an episode summery.

1: The Armoured Might Of Lance Corporal Jones.

Jones the butcher, lets the platoon use his delivery van as an armoured car. Also the episode where Captain Mainwaring meets the new ARP Warden.

2: Battle School.

A weekend of guerrilla warfare training is in store for the platoon, that's is of course if they can find where their meant to be.

3: The Lion Has Phones.

The platoon gets the chance to capture some actual prisoners when an enemy aircraft crashes into the town's reservoir.

4: The Bullet Is Not For Firing.

While out on patrol, several members of the Platoon fire at a enemy aircraft. But Mainwearing isn't happy, and sets up a court of inquiry.

5: Something Nasty In The Vault.

My first favourite episode of the series finds Mainwaring and Wilson with an unexploded bomb on their hands.

6: Room At The Bottom.

My second favourite episode of the series. Mainwaring discovers that he is no entitled to the rank of Captain, and takes his place in the Platoon as a private.

7: Big Guns.

The platoon is given heavy artillery.

8: The Day The Balloon Went Up.

An escaped barrage balloon has to be brought back down to the ground, along with Captain Mainwaring.

9: War Dance.

Private Pike wants to bring a woman to the platoon dance, but Mainwaring is disapproving when he discovers she is just a 'common' cleaner.

10: Menace From The Deep.

The Platoon and Hodges are stranded on the pier head. They have no food, no method of communications with others, and a sea-mine drifts there way.

11: Branded.

Godfrey admits to being a conscientious objector during the Great War, and is sent home in disgrace.

12: Man Hunt.

Walker gets a tracker dog for the platoon.

13: No Spring For Frazer.

The undertaker Frazer has lost the spring to the Lewis gun. Could it be somewhere in his funeral parlour?

14: Sons Of The Sea.

The bank and therefore the platoon inherits a boat, and decide to mount a river patrol. But they end up getting lost in the English Channel.
