I first saw this when flicking through the channels one night when I was very bored and there was nothing on to watch. I came across the E! entertainment channel, which I don't usually watch and they had a double billing of this show.
Having never seen or heard of it before I quickly realised it was about Hugh Heffner and his girlfriends and their lives together at the playboy mansion. After one episode I was hooked.
Now, my whole family seem to think it very strange that I watch this kind of show as there are lot's of almost naked women on screen most of the time and even when they are dressed, they don't wear much. I don't know why I like watching it, it's a bit like a car crash, you know you shouldn't look, but you can't help it. I spend of my time watching the show cringing when these young women kiss a man who is probably old enough to be their great grandfather in some cases, or when the girls act like total bimbos, so why do I enjoy the show so much?
The show is set around the playboy mansion and what goes on from day to day. This is no normal household. Hugh Heffner has three girlfriends who all live in the mansion with their dogs. The three girls are Holly, Bridget and Kendra. Holly is the main girlfriend who shares a room with hugh. Then there's Bridget and Kendra, who have their own bedrooms and take a back to seat to Holly and Hugh's relationship. It's all very strange and although the girls all protest to be in love with Hugh, it's pretty easy to see what they're really in love with.
It's a very strange set up with Hugh and his girlfriends. I try not to judge other people, but it's very difficult when you watch a programme like this. The girls all get to live in the mansion, they don't appear to have jobs (other than odd bits in magazines and TV shows) but do seem to have responsibilities to fulfil. They all seem to be expected to attend a huge variety of events and host special occasions at the mansion. They all pander to Hugh's every whim and in return they get gifts and luxuries that us normal folks can only dream of. That's all fine I suppose if they're happy with it, but what really gets me is that the girls are not allowed to stay out at night and have a 9pm curfew. If they want to go visit their families, they have to leave at a really silly hour in the morning so that they can be back by 9pm. Hugh sometimes goes with them but often prefers to stay within the grounds of his mansion. They all say it's because of incidents in the past with other girlfriends, but I just can't get my head around that.
I believe that these 3 girls have now moved on since the series were filmed, but Hugh Heffner quickly filled their places.
This is a very entertaining show. I find it quite difficult to watch sometimes, but it can also be very funny. it's a real look into how some people live and I do find it fascinating. This is not a show for any prudes out there and is full of flesh and is definitely not a family show.
I am a real girly girl and I know its incredibly sad and shallow but I happen to love this programme/dvd for its silly, quirky, fun and girly topics as well as entertaining for the humour and classic blonde comments and lifestyle of the rich and famous barbie dolls.
I can quite happilly sit and watch this on a lazy weekend day, with my girlfreinds, a hot chocolate throws to snuggle into and to have a mindless item to watch with no thought needed. Just fun. No intellect or emotion is required with this dvd as you can simply watch, laugh and enjoy.
This is certainly one however for the younger ladies rather than older generations and boys you will hate it! The lifestyle of the girls is portrayed through their everyday tasks, jobs, photo shoots and relationships with hugh hefner and his staff. The wealth that surrounds them is astronomical and yet they are so down to earth in some form and lovely endeering somewhat people.
The parties thrown are a wealth for ideas and suggestons for your own parties and their dedication as girlfreinds and workers is incredible. Its something to watch when you have no energy to watch anything serious and just want to relax doing nothing. Get some great beauty tips, how to be the perfect girlfreind and barbie doll and for a few hours live the lifestyle of this fantasy world.
All the men want to be him and envy every part of his life. He lives in a mansion, has beautiful women dripping off his arm, has endless amounts of money and seems to live the life of a king - have you guess yet? I'm talking about Hugh Hefner. The man who epitomises the phrase "Playboy lifestyle".
The Girls Next Door is a reality show that focuses on Hef's three live-in girlfriends and the way they spend their days. Funnily enough, Hef doesn't appear as much in this show as you might expect. The show had a run of around 4-5 years, until the girls all separately decided to leave the mansion and move on with their own lives.
Holly Maddison is Hef's number one girlfriend, which means that she shares a room and a bed with him (lets not get too technical here, as it will turn you off the program straight away!), Holly and Hef stayed together for around 7 years. They shared a love of old movies and animals.
Bridget Marquardt is the oldest out of the girlfriends and has lived at the mansion the longest. It was always her dream to become a Playboy Bunny (which means have a feature in the Playboy magazine), and Hef made their dreams come true in a couple of the episodes. Always bubbly and looks on the bright side of everything, she sometimes comes across as ditzy, however she has a few degrees under her belt. She would do anything for anyone and goes out of her way to make everyone feel special.
The last and youngest of the trio is Kendra Wilkinson. She moved in to the mansion when she was just 18, so had to do a lot of growing up. She is a bit of a tomboy but also a complete party animal - and doesn't enjoy clearing up after herself.
In some of the episodes you can tell there is a tension between the girls, mainly Holly and Kendra. But for the most part they are just enjoying life while they are young.
I won't comment on their relationships with Hef, because I don't fully understand it myself, nor do I want to.
If you just want a bit of entertainment though, this show does exactly what it says on the tin. Its not serious, it's not got any values and it pokes fun at itself. Just watch it for a bit of entertainment as its completely light hearted.
Watch the girls bond as they all visit their home towns. Watch them throw parties for all their Playboy friends. Watch them go to Vegas and travel all over the world. They are having the time of their lives and you can't fault them for that.
So where I know I don't need to convince the men to watch it, I would say to the women just tune in, you can't help but like at least one of them.
Watch a couple of episode and you will be hooked, until they go their separate ways. I am yet to comment on Hef's new girlfriend and set of twin's lol.
Girls of the Playboy Mansion is the show from the US which sees a camera crew following the lives of Hugh Hefner and his three girlfriends Kendra, Bridget and Holly as they go about their day to day lives. The show is one which many people will be thinking before they see it is going to be all about seeing girls running around with nothing on and seeing Hefner fondling and fussing over them but the show you actually get is a terrific show that gives you a real look at the girls and their lives and the fact that they have goals and ambitions and even insecurities but above all it shows you just how much of a family bond they have in place (not a normal family bond but a bond that does seem strong). The show does not focus on Hefner nor any one of the girls and thanks to this and the fact that you get to hear what the girls have to say you get a show which is enjoyable, lighthearted and fun and one which I have found I am not growing bored of (following watching this on marathons on Sky tv).
Give it a chance and don't go in with pre-conceived ideas and you will find a show that is interesting and fun and above all is entertaining.
I'm writing this as I'm watching the 'Girls of the Playboy mansion marathon' on E!Entertainment (Sky channel 151)
At first glance of the name (which by the way is the UK name for American program 'The girls next door') you will probably think this a show for men to watch if you are having an early night, if you get my drift!!
This is not true though, I mean its Easter Monday and its been on since 8am.
Girls of the Playboy mansion follows the lives of Hugh Hefner and his current three 'girlfriends' Holly, Bridget and Kendra.
All of course blonde with big boobs.
But theres more to the girls than just that believe it or not! Kendra is the tomboy, she loves sport and cars, Bridget is a girly girl but she has a brain too, Holly is my favourite; gorgeous but really sweet and intelligent too.
Anyone can watch this program, obviously not kids as there are the occasional topless moments! What do you expect?? It is set at the Playboy mansion!
Hugh has the dream job of any man I think, he lives in a huge gorgeous mansion in LA with tonnes of topless blondes rallying around him!
Before I watched this I thought that all the girls just wanted to become famous and that was the only reason they wanted Hefners attention. Now I understand theres more to it than that, his three special 'girlfriends' actually seem to love him, Holly seems to be his favourite and they have a proper relationship; definitely in love and she wants to marry him.....
In the first series we see the celebrating the launch of their first pictorial together and their new found fame.
The house is of course full of Playboy branded products, everything you could imagine; clothing, cars, teddys, fridges...etc.
Since the last series finished, Holly left Hugh as he didn't want to start a family with her....very strange, he doesn't exactly seem the family type so I don't know why she ever though he would!
There are now adverts on E!Entertainment advertising the start of a new series in June called 'Kendra' she too seems to have left the Playboy mansion and Hef behind.
I enjoy this series and so does my fella (obviously)lol so I recommend you give it a try.
So a quick recap-
DVD boxset of series one available on HMV.com for £14.99.
Series two and three are available to buy too but not as widely available.
I have this fear that somewhere out there lives a whole group of impressionable young teenage girls (or even younger perhaps) who watch this tripe and think "That's the career for me. A life of pampering and luxury and all I have to do is every once in a while let some wrinkled old bloke full of viagra on board for a quick hump"
This TV show is basically a camera crew being allowed access to Hugh Hefners Bunny Ranch Mansion as it follows the lives of his current three girlfriends Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson. Essentially these three blond fake boob bimbos prostitute themselves for a life of luxury, occasionally you can see the revulsion in their eyes as he fawns over them, especially Kendra who is the least intelligent of the three and has the most forced fake laugh going. I assume all three have done porn before so this life is probably a step up as they get to model and indulge themselves with an array of pets.
As an insight into a different life it has its moments but to be honest one episode is more than enough to watch and there is little value in enduring the whole of the first series where you see the girls get introduced and then they gush warmth for the camera while all the time wondering how they can get their hands on his money and business empire.
This is cringe worthy TV that only an American audience with their low IQ could possible enjoy or sad act blokes who will stare at the TV for thirty minutes in the hope of seeing some boob flesh without realising that on the internet they are only ever one search engine and two clicks away from the same. Rant over, do not buy and do not watch.
The concept of the show is a reality-tv, behind the scenes look at Hugh Hefner's life. He lives at the Playboy Mansion with his three girlfriends and the show is actually more about them than Hef.
His girlfriends are Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson. Holly is very clever (given that they are all fairly dumb she's the brightest of the three) and she sticks very close to Hef (probably hoping he will leave everything in his will to her). Bridget seems like a nice person but is often disorganised or stressed. Kendra is mad and likes to do crazy things. She's also quite rough. She is uneducated and immature and often acts in a distasteful way (for example bad language, lewd comments and moments of immaturity including flashing the houses of Parliament!)
People love Hugh Hefner (I don't) and think he's "the man" for having three girlfriends (he used to have 7! but he's 80 years old now so slowing down in his old age) but again I think it's disgraceful and I have no respect for him or the girls. even if you have a traditionalist view, watching an episode of this program is interesting because you do wonder how they live given the ridiculous set-up- one man, three girlfriends- how does it all work? Well actually, they live fairly normally, (except for being famous).
The show focuses on the press releases, promotions and daily lives of the girls. This series shows what they do, day in day out and how they have their own rooms in the house. Viewers are also introduced to the staff at the mansion- various chefs, maids and helpers- as well as Hef's personal secretary (who looks as old as he is).
There is a lot of media interest in the girls and as the cameras follow them around you can see just how in demand they are. Other episodes include the girls taking trips with Hef or Hef meeting celebrities.
The girls have done very well out of being Hef's girlfriends. They have all been offered a lot of work. They all appeared in Scary Movie 4 and Nickelback's Rockstar video and have been offered jobs in various tv and film roles. In addition, they have had the opportunity of travelling the world (further series show them visiting Europe etc) and they clearly wouldn't have had the opportunity of doing the many new things they do throughout the series without this rich sugar daddy providing them with the means and money to see the world.
Fast forward to today and all three girls have broken up with Hef and have moved out of the mansion. Bridget is now filming a show for the Travel Channel, Kendra is engaged to an NFL player, Hank Baskett, and Holly has also broken up with Hef due to his not wanting to get married or have a family. (Or she has realised that his persistent refusal of her suggestions of marriage mean that she will never get her hands on his riches so has given up).
I dislike the show because I think it's unethical and promotes poor family values. I hate the idea of young, immature boys seeing Hef and Co and thinking "yeah man, that's big pimping!" Eurgh. What's become of the world?? Of course, there are people in the world who have this situation in a very real way- look at polygamous marriages- but these are not three wives in a polygamous marriage- in their current state they are all disposable (and now they have been disposed of).
At the end of the day they are three girls wanting fame and fortune and the set up suits them because they can get that. But what woman would compromise her self-respect in this way? (Aside from Anna Nicole smith that is...) The set up also suits Hefner because he looks like a big man and is making money from the Tv series and DVD sales as well as the promotions and press surrounding the girls. This is why he's now replaced the girls with twin sisters. Wow that was fast. No grieving period post-break up? Nah, the Playboy way is to discard and replace. Not a show I would want my future kids to watch.
Aside from preaching lol I dislike the typical reality tv aspect; some parts are not interesting, with parts possibly fabricated (as we have heard occurs with reality tv shows). The show doesn't delve into personal issues the characters may be going through- it's just a scene here, a scene there with some Jessica Simpson-style goofy comments thrown in. It's very light viewing and I don't think people would want to buy this on DVD (even if you are not sanctimonious and opinionated like me!) as once you've seen it; what's the point in watching it again? Give this a miss.
Girls Of The Playboy Mansion is a reality show about the girls who live in the Playboy mansion, going through their daily life, the partys, the pool, the pampering and also the hard work (well not that hard really) of being High Hefners girlfriend. Heff's three girlfriends, Holly (the well behaved one), Bridget (the girly one) and Kendra (the tom boy sporty one).
Season 1 of this show just really introduces the girls and their personalities and traits, they are all blond, though they arent as dumb as they are steriotyped, though they can get annoying some times.
I think that this show is really interesting because I just cant over the strange living arrangement that the girlfriends and Heff have, they all live in the same house, though Bridget and Kendra have their own rooms, Holly shares a room with Heff, and all of the girls are treated and act just like a real girlfriend, they all do 'everything' that normal couples do according to the girls on the show.
This is a reality show that you will either love or hate, it is tasteful in the way that there isnt much nudity in it, and it just basically shows the girls and Heff in their every day life, the show airs late at night on TV on occassion and also is available on DVD online for around £10.
The show is certificated 15, and I think that it is more for the girls than the male audience.
If you like reality TV and are interested in what really goes on in the mansion then you will love this show.
The Girls Next Door (American Title) or Girls of the Playboy Mansion (UK title) is a television show that offers viewers an amazing insight into the surreal life at Hugh Hefner's Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles, California.
The show follows the lives of three of Hef's girlfriends and shows you their day to day lives, what they get up to, their living quarters, their pets and also their lives with Hef and how he has shaped their future. This is one of my guilty must-see shows just because it is such an interesting situation that the girls find themselves in and one that none of us can ever really understand but it does make for fascinating television. How can three seemingly intelligent pretty girls fall for a man in his 80's and want to live and sleep with him and how do their families react to their weird love lives?
The three girls in question are Hef's top three girlfriends. Holly Madison is his number one girlfriend and actually as the series goes on I really think he has genuine feelings for her and really does lover her as an equal and not just a blond bimbo. She is desperate to get married and have his babies and drops hints all the time but he just brushes it off and ignores it. It's almost a bit sad in a way because at times she does sound a bit deluded into thinking that she will actually have babies with Hef. I just keep thinking when I watch the show that surely she must realise he will probably be dead in a few years and then where will that leave her and a baby. Holly is the entrepreneurial one of the three and often gets involved with a lot of work on the Playboy magazine. She often scouts for girls for the magazine and does some of the photoshoots. It's quite interesting to see how this part of the business works on the show.
The second girlfriend is Bridgette Marquardt. She is also blond (all three of them are) and slightly larger than the other two. What I like about the girls is that although they have great bodies they are not stick figures, they have curves and lumps and are proud of their bodies, it's a really good healthy attitude to have and one I think is portrayed well on the show. I would say Bridgette is probably the nicest of the three girls although they all are nice. She seems very normal and fun and quite intelligent. She is really into Halloween and scary things like that and it's quite fun to see some of the projects she gets involved in.
The girl's pets are show on the programme quite a lot. Bridgette has dog (I think it's a dog, it's quite small and hairy) called Wednesday that she is forever dressing up in clothes, much to the pets distress. The other girls have lots of dogs and we also get to see all the pets around the mansion grounds such as peacocks, monkeys, birds, etc, very cool animals.
The third girlfriend is called Kendra Wilson. She is probably the most annoying girl. She is the youngest of the three. I think when the show starts she is under 21. She is very into sports, the San Diego Chargers are her favourite team and is also into hip-pop and gangster type living like that. She is quite crude and although she is very pretty when she dresses up she is quite a tomboy and doesn't really make an effort most of the time.
You get a glimpse into some of the parties the mansion throws which are legendary. The decorating is amazing, they really go all out and the food looks amazing. Hef actually met Kendra when she was a girl at one of the parties, she was naked but had a body paint costume on that looked amazing. Their families all on the surface seem to be completely ok with their choices. Kendra's mother and grandmother live in California, San Diego so only a couple of hours away from the mansion so they are over quite a bit. It's very funny to see the Grandmother when she comes over because she is probably about the same age as Hef.
They really do lead a different life than most of us will ever ever know. They acknowledge this though and admit that it is different but you can tell for now it is a life that really works for them. I think they totally have their heads screwed on. They never go as far to admit that they sleep with Hef but it's sort of hinted at and you don't really see any of that stuff, a few boobs, here and there but it's tasteful if a bit crass but not seedy or disgusting in any way. Luckily, I can't see the attraction in Hef. To me he comes across as a dirty old man with a horrible cockily laugh that creeps me out! He wanders around in his PJ's all the time and looks terrible. I'm sure we don't know the ins and outs but sometimes it doesn't seem like they have fun living there as he does not let them out overnight without him, although he does relax this in later years but the benefits they get, restaurants they go to, trips they take etc and in terms of forwarding their careers have done wonders for them
The DVD of the first season was released on 1 august 2006. It covers all 15 episodes of the first season over 3 discs and lasts for 336 minutes.
Girls of the Playboy Mansion - who are they?
As majority of people should have heard of Hugh Hefner, the founder of Playboy magazine, a extremely successful business man and also the envy of many men because of the women that he is associated and many women that there are too.
Girls of The Playboy Mansion is about the three girlfriend of Hugh Hefner and their day to day business and lives as one of Hef's playmates.
Who are they?
Holly Madison - Holly is Hef's main girlfriend and is a glamour model. Having a successful career as a model she was recognised by Hef and invited to the Playboy Mansion, at this time when Hef actually had 7 girlfriends. She became his main girlfriend in 2001 and is the one that actually shares his bed every night.
Holly has a passion for photography and gets very involved in the day to day running of playboy magazine, recruiting new faces in the magazine, arranging shoots and is Hef's right hand lady.
Bridget Marquardt - Bridget has been one of Hef's girlfriends for 6 years, although she does have her own private space in the mansion. Bridget is the typical blond out of the three of them, very girly girly and loves to have fancy dress parties in the mansion. Dressing up is one of her traits.
Kendra Wilkinson - Kendra is the sporty spice out of the three of Hef's girlfriends. Any sport, she will have a go whether she is good at it or not. Kendra met Hef with many of the other girls, however he took a liking to her straight away and invited her to become one of his main girlfriends and to live in the PLayboy Mansion in 2004.
The programme is currently aired on Living TV at the moment on Tuesday Nights or you may be able to catch it on E. There is nothing seedy in the actual programme itself, it just follows them round and the lives that they lead being a Girl of the Playboy Mansion, however I can imagine many people thinking that it quite seedy. But if you had as much money that he did, I don't think anyone would be complaining. Its quite entertaining to watch three dizzy blonds, dizzier than myself on television and I really enjoy it.
